Good alternative to Ludington State Park

Park had vacancy when I called late Friday afternoon for Saturday.  So if you want to stay in the Ludington area but can't get into the State Park, this is good.  Just about 2 miles from the State Park beaches and less than 2 miles into downtown.  There is a designated paved trail that runs right through the campground.  You can easily ride bikes downtown where there is a large variety of restaurants and/or brewery.  The whole downtown area is very cool with city parks/beaches/marina/shops.  Office staff was very friendly and professional.  We camped in the "rustic" section, meaning no electric or running water on site.  Bathroom was relatively clean and near our site.  Crowd was not too rowdy and pretty chill.  Lots of kids ;-)  and dogs ;-(.  Best features are location (at nothing, but near everything).  Worst features mentioned by others - there is no fence between the campground and the busy road, road noise, the cemetery does not bother us.  Ludington State Park has MANY excellent opportunities hiking, biking, watercraft, beach bumming.  Highly recommend the State Park....but it is very hard to get into in the summer.  Stay here instead and you'll be half way between the State Park and Downtown.

Street noice and creeped out wife!

It is a nice spot to quick stop and sleep. It’s is nice and close to town. However right next to the cemetery, so if you have superstitions and are weirded out by post death. Our spot was butted up to the road too which was busy most of the night.

Nice campground

This was a nice campground.  The area we stayed in was spread out but there appears to be a seasonal area where the campers are packed together.  The facilities were nice as was the staff.  A storm hit the night we were there that knocked out power to the campground.  Power was restored during the night.

Nice campground

Owner went above and beyond to put us in a site that would work for our RV and kids. we stayed close to the playscape, which ended up being awesome for our kids. 10 minutes from several beaches, I would recommend getting to the beach before 10am. ( they get busy fast ) We will for sure stay longer next time. The owner makes everything easy here.

You can find better.

We tent camped and were able to park our car right at the site. There were few forested areas available, and it was also difficult to find a flatter piece of land. Felt pretty close to nearby neighbors, and the space was pretty open without any dividing trees to even set up hammocks. There is a nice trail walk through a residential area that empties you into downtown Ludington. However, I've camped in better places (Buttersville Campground) in Ludington, and since this place is pretty removed from the beach, I would say to seek out a better campground.

Tri weekend

We always stay here every year for the Ludington triathlon. It's a family friendly park and typical doesn't have a lot of riff raff. This year we got stuck right by the road. It was terrible. Loud traffic, very close and down hill. It was a bit dangerous for kids running around. Other than that we love this place!

It was okay

Camped with a few friends in the rustic camping area. Had great bathrooms and the campground itself has a great location close by the state park and the city of ludington so beach and stores. The sites were a little small and not very private at all. This is not a campground you go to if you are looking for more wilderness type environment. It's great for families and dogs with nice biking/hiking trails. Something to be aware of before you go if your meeting a group out there is they only allow Three items per site. If you have two tents you can only have one car. If you have three tents no car...(canopy tents do not count in this. They have overflow parking throughout though. Staff is friendly and helpful.

right before we arrived someone came through during the night and stole some high end bikes this was just and unfortunate experience and they suggest you try to lock things up. Which makes sense in general. Overall it was a good experience not my type of camping but I've had worse.
