Quiet and beautiful

Great location, right in the porcupine mountains. Nice trails to 2 large waterfalls, a staircase to the rocky shores of Lake superior. Just a quick drive to Lake of the Clouds. Be warned that half of the campground allows Generators.

Great base for hiking treks

This is a typical state park in Michigan in that the sites don't offer privacy and are packed in tighter than they should be. However, if you want amenities, this is the place to use as a great Basecamp for day hikes in the Porkies. Nice bathrooms and shower facilities, plus great views down by…

Crowded and tons of dogs

I have 3 stars because we reserved a spot on the lake. Great view. All the sites are jammed together with little privacy. One wash house with 4 showers(shared by both sexes) for entire campground. Crowded with tons of dogs, that seem to bark non stop. Off leash along rocks barking at people. Wish…

Cute but noisy

This was a pretty typical state park camping experience. It is right on the highway so there is highway noise. We could see the lake over the highway from our site which was nice. This site was okayed for a 35 ft trailer but we had some challenges positioning our 33ft trailer so beware of that!…

l’ance township

Nice camp site to stay at with great view of the bay. We drove to Houghton and took a hike. Restroom and showers not close however. The dump station was so easy since small campground. Very good price.

It has some good points

My review is mixed. Seems well run. Bathrooms are clean and the water is hot. There is a sign that says $5 for a shower if you aren’t a registered camper so that is good if you are just passing through. Sites are typical for a state park. Our site was a little muddy. Lots of activities for kids. My…

Great camp to start our Great Lakes tour

Vibe: Family summer time fun.

Cleanliness: Above average.

Facilities: Nice, well kept. Individual locking showing rooms!

General spots: Varies a lot. Near the shore, there are spots with some tree barriers and shade. Up on the hill it’s more like a grass parking lot.

Wilderness at its best

Campground is very rustic and beautiful, easy trails to Lake Superior from the campground.

RV and tent sites- some have electric and some do not.

Clean and well maintained.

If you are looking for a quiet rustic campground this is for you!

Great tent camping depending on site

Small leveled spot, but we have a huge tent and made it work. Our site was spaced well away from other sites, but some were right on top of each other. Facilities were in good shape and clean enough. Awesome land; lots of pines and rocky terrain. Great swimming beach and boat launch. Reasonably…

One of my favorite campsites! Near hiking and Lake Superior too

This is a perfect, secluded spot. We are so happy that this site opened up on the website. Don’t forget to make that reservation and see what is available.

Site 1 was so secluded and private. It really felt like nobody else was out here. We had more than enough room to set up and could even…

Large campground on a lake by a main road

This rating is only based upon what we look for in a campground. You may enjoy this type of adventure.

Our campsite is the furthest non electric from the restrooms and they put a vault toilet right next to the main restroom instead of over this way. We do have wonderful evening shade which is…

On a lake and near the Porcupine Mountains

Finding myself with a squealing front wheel on a holiday weekend was trouble. Luckily a local paused his celebration preparations and helped me fix the problem. We got to talking and he suggested this campground. It is similar to the state park and just down the road. He also said,“it’ll save you a…

Kid friendly

Site 38 backs up to the new playground This was one of the largest sites We absolutely loved it, easy to see kids at the park and still enjoy the campsite.

Make sure to check with ranger katie she offered events for the kids to attend, almost daily.
