Beautiful spot to camp

We got one of the spots closer to the road but turned out great! These spots don't have quite the lake view but seem to feel more quiet and secluded. The lake views were gorgeous, amenities fine. We found this after leaving another spot closer to Marquette that felt uninviting despite all the…

Very Nice & Clean

They were still building much of this campground when we visited. All the sites felt intimate and private. The bathrooms were rustic but clean and big. They were building really nice cabins as well. Would definitely return.

Very nice- good service

Very nice - we were in site 31. Plenty of space and we did not feel like we were too close to others. They had lots of hiking trails near and a bar and pizza place. Nice store, nice staff, pool/ hot tub, and right on the river. You are also able to take a nearby ski lift up the mountain for some…

Great state park for families

Van Riper State Park is a must-visit if you’re traveling through Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  It’s popular year-round, although camping is only open between May and October. Stop for the day to hike the trails and go for a swim, or stay a week and enjoy the sunsets and serenity.

The state park…

  • One of the great views from the hiking trails (of the landscape, not of us. LOL)
  • Site 43 -- a nice end spot in the modern campground.

Excellent Escape!

If you're looking for an off-the-grid escape this is it.  The hike-in/paddle in camping spots are equipped with a picnic table and a firepit, everything else is up to you.  I have been going here yearly for the last 10ys and absolutely love it!  The only downside is the fishing has gone downhill…

Wasn't Expecting Much, but Blown Away!

On the shores of Independence Lake, just south of Lake Superior, sits this gorgeous, sparkling clean county park with a well-managed campground. Wasn’t expecting much, so was blown away by the facilities for the low price. Lots of site options: non-electric, with electric only, with full hookups,…

We really enjoyed our stay here!

Our experience at Fort Wilkins/Copper Harbor started out great. We rolled in to the campground headquarters with no reservation. The guy working in the office was fantastic, he even highlighted some campsites we might want to look at. We stayed in the west campground in site 133. It was about like…

Our favorite place to camp

If you love mountain biking or hiking you stay here. Period. You are right on the trails. Bathrooms and showers are nice. If you have little ones the grom trail rims next to the top camp site. We love going here.

I'm going 4. East campground 3 west 5.

Unfortunately we're we're in east. It's a sardine can. Amenities are nice. But you're basically in 1 big campsite. West was full or I'd be there.

Camping in the Wild at its best!

This is my absolute favorite place to camp, hike, kayak, fish, and just get away from it all. If you want seclusion, you can find it here with many remote campsites that are only accessible through the water or overland by hiking the trails in the park.

The park has 2 rustic cabins and 2 yurts…

Cramped camp sites, nice lake

This was our last and least favorite campground of our week long MI trip. If the weather had been warmer I think we would have had more fun here because the beach and lakefront is gorgeous, but it was too cold to swim. Campsites in the modern campground are small and very close to one another, plus…

Peaceful and serene

Great campground to unplug ... literally, as we didn't get cell service within the park. There is WIFI at the modern bathroom, but we only had to use that once. Our site in the West Campground was well shaded, it seemed as though trees separated every campsite allowing for privacy and nature views…
