Superior Times

Private campground Superior Times sits on Au Train Lake, offering campers direct water access along with a mix of rustic tent sites, RV spots with full hookups, and rental cabins. The property operates as a family-friendly resort with seasonal campers alongside overnight visitors.

The lakefront location draws families with children, who use the small beach area, fishing spots, and rental watercraft including jet skis at $60 per hour. D G. found "warm water and good fishing" during their stay. Basketball courts and yard games occupy the central area, while fire pits provide evening gathering spots. The property maintains clean restrooms and shower facilities, though some reviewers note the shower buildings are compact.

Site configurations vary significantly across the property. The 30-amp electric sites back up to wooded areas but run tight on space, while rustic tent sites offer more seclusion despite being closer to other campers than expected. Site 10 receives mentions for its quieter location away from the main activity areas. Full hookup sites accommodate larger RVs, with a dump station available for those needing it.

Management has been working on property improvements, including bathroom remodels in some cabins and grading work near the lake access area. The campground sits minutes from town via local roads, with a general store nearby. Michael A. describes it as a "very nice private campground that offers rustic, electric, and cabins." WiFi reaches the office area for weather checks and directions. Other campgrounds around Au Train provide alternatives for those seeking different atmospheres, while Au Train Lake Campground offers a state forest option nearby.

Reservations help secure preferred sites during busy summer periods when families and seasonal campers fill the property.

Guests commonly noted clean facilities, helpful staff, and excellent lake access with recreational activities. Several reviews mentioned noise issues from other campers and tight site spacing, though the location near Pictured Rocks remains a consistent draw.

Nice place and great location

I stayed in one of the rustic tent sites, which sound really isolated on the site but really are not. That said, they were really nice campsites! I had an unfortunate RV couple watching tv and full on yelling at the game until 12:30am which sucked, but the owners took care of it. The location is fantastic - lots of kayaking nearby and hiking too. This area never disappoints.

Nice place

Very nice private campground that offers rustic, electric, and cabins. We stayed in a 30 amp electric site. The 30 amp sites are a bit tight but backed up to the woods, so privacy wasn't an issue. Very friendly owners! Can't wait to go back

Lots of kiddos

We only stayed here one night but the kids had a lot of fun, they have a lot of outdoor toys. There were kids everywhere.

Outhouse and showers were clean

Electric hook up

Filled water at dump station We stayed in site 10 it was quiet and away from the core of the noise

Friendly staff Seasonals were a little wild and loud, I like to have fun so it didn’t bother me much but they didn’t always watch the kids, only complaint.

6 minutes back into the town near the River is a little gas station / general store —- best Pasties!

Cabins available Rustic tent sites available

Nice Basecamp for Pictured Rocks and My Workweek

I snagged a spot here for my work week and for opportunities to explore Pictured Rocks.

The staff and other campers were super friendly and I loved enjoying a nice hot shower every evening.

They had ice and firewood available, a small beach and dock for launching or tying up boats, and lots of yard games for the kids.

There were also a couple nice public boat launches for the Au Train River right down the street!

No no no

This place looks like a scene from a movie; like Vacation (1983) pool full of swans scene instead of RV (2006) picturesque scenes! Packed full, one spot (literally up to the highway — noise fetish?) and it was the roomiest; just looks sad. Lots of kids. We’ve raised ours, don’t mind kids, but when they’re bored and unsupervised, they are not enjoyable.

Family Friendly, Great Lake View, Accomodating owners

We enjoyed our time at Superior Times. The owners are working to improve the resort and keep guests happy and have made several updates. We stayed in a cabin with a newly remodeled bathroom, which was very nice. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was nice too.

Kids fished, rode Sea Doos - rented them for $60/hour, played basketball, and had a great time. We sat around our own firepit and had a chance to unwind and relax.  We will be back in the early fall to see the colors change.

Great location to the Au Train falls and other waterfalls as well as Pictured Rocks.

Pretty lakefront campground. Great location to Pictured Rocks.

We really enjoyed our stay at Superior Times. The campground is on Au Train Lake and the campground offers jet skis, boats, and kayaks for rent. They were in the midst of grading the area leading down to the Lake so it was pretty dirty/dusty in that section; however, once that is done it will be really nice. The shower/bathrooms were very small but worked out fine.

Very clean and affordable

My wife and I camped here earlier this year (June ‘18) and had a great time! Not only was it affordable, but the bathrooms were extremely clean showers included. The site has cheap boat rentals and a small beach area to relax at. Not the type of site you’d want to stay at the whole trip, but great for people checking the area out and all it has to offer.

Perfect Spot

We stumbled upon this little gem and camped there for 3 nights. We opted for the rustic campground which still allowed access to the bathroom and showers, but was secluded from the cabin and RV area. The lake access was great! Warm water and good fishing. The staff was fantastic and even offered us a cold beer. Although we wanted to disconnect, the WiFi access near the office was great for mapping directions or checking the weather.
