Town Corner Lake State Forest Campground

Deep within the Pigeon River Country State Forest Area, Town Corner Lake State Forest Campground sits at the end of unmarked dirt roads that require careful navigation to reach. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources manages this remote camping spot, which wraps around a small lake and operates from April through October.

Most campsites face the water directly, giving campers immediate lake access for swimming, paddling, and fishing. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet and provides basic amenities including vault toilets, a hand-pump well for drinking water, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Ron F. notes the "vault toilets were clean, well water was good" during his late September visit. Sites offer generous spacing between neighbors, and the boat launch provides easy water access for kayakers and anglers.

The remote location means zero cell service for miles around, and visitors report seeing elk along the forest roads leading to the campground. Coyotes are active at night, with their vocalizations carrying across the water. The challenging access keeps visitor numbers lower than more accessible campgrounds near Johannesburg, making this a true backcountry experience. Bring detailed maps and a compass, as GPS reliability drops significantly in this forested area.

Many campers appreciated the remote lakeside setting with well-spaced sites offering beautiful views and lake access. Basic facilities are clean and functional, though expect no cell service and challenging navigation on unmarked dirt roads.

Isolated and beautiful little campground

Stayed here in late September 2023 for 2 nights. The campsites are well spaced from each other and most have lake access. we had 2 tents and plenty of room. Vault toilets were clean, well water was good. Saw an elk while driving around the area.

Perfect spot

Beautiful location with a perfect kayaking lake. The coyotes were very loud and close at night keeping us awake but the experience was exiting. Highly recommend

Quiet Rustic

Pit toilets and pump well. Most sites are on the lake and there is a boat launch. Elk viewing on the way in.

A beautiful secluded rustic campground

Looking for something off the beaten path? Well, here it is (if you can find it). This place is dropped right in the middle of the incredible Pigeon River State Forest and you better bring your compass and map to find it. Zero cell service for miles and limited road signs. Nothing but unmarked dirt roads and two-tracks for miles. The campground wraps around the lake, so most of the sites overlook the lake with some beautiful views. Shared rustic toilets and well pump for drinking water. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The lake was perfect for swimming, paddling, or fishing.
