Fishing the Pigeon River and listening for elk in the fall are two reasons anglers and wildlife watchers return to this six-site campground in Pigeon River Country State Forest Area. The dirt access road gets rough. After rain or snow, low-clearance vehicles can struggle to reach the sites, and RVs are capped at 20 feet given the twists and ruts along the route. An artesian well provides drinking water on-site, and a vault toilet handles sanitation. Fire pits run deep, which limits their usefulness for warmth. At $15 a night with direct river access and trailheads nearby, it fills up fast on fall weekends.
