Lots of fishermen camping. Found some soda light yooper lights on the beach. Overall it was one of our favorite campgrounds Roads are rough getting there.

Fun drive to get here

We got in at around 4am and obviously all spots were taken so we had to leave to another campsite. However, I will say that the drive here is super fun if you have a 4WD and capable vehicle. If you follow google maps it will take you through these roads but if you stay on the more flattened road you’ll eventually make it as well. Plan your route as there’s no signal whatsoever.

Perfect place to get away

This place was fantastic. Sits right on the river, easy boat and kayak access. Most sites are reasonably segregated (though a few seemed right on top of each other, most were not like this). I had a nice site with a hilltop to setup my tent on. 100% will be back.

Listen to Lake Superior while you sleep

Stayed 8 nights in late October. This was our second time to the camp and it was as wonderous as the first. The North Country Trail goes right through the camp which was perfect for us. .There are two camps to pick from. We chose camp #1 due to it's proximity to the bridge. The sunsets are spectacular. A must visit if you are willing to drive 30mins on dirt roads.

Best Campsites in Michigan

This place is breathtaking. The road to get here is sketchy at best, make sure you have everything you need before you get there.... but it is worth it. A walking suspension bridge is over the Two Hearted River leads to a rocky beach with some of the most epic sunsets you will ever see. The only drawback- this place is POPULAR... so finding a site can be iffy at best.

One of my absolute favorite places in the UP!

My husband and I have been coming here for years and it has to be one of my favorite places in the upper peninsula. The views are spectacular and the area is peaceful. The campground does tend to get crowded in the summer but it’s worth it. We love spending time on the beach collecting rocks. The river is also a very fun paddle!

Remote, Quiet, Beautiful

Mouth of the Two Hearted River Campground is a quiet, secluded campground on the shores of Lake Superior. Even with rain the first day, the beauty of Lake Superior doesn’t disappoint, but it was nice with sun on the second day. My son and I had a great time! Great spot for rock hunting. Not too far of a drive from Tahquamenon Falls, Paradise, MI or Whitefish Point, the lighthouse and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Echo what previous folks have said about getting a county road map as it can be easy to get lost. For reference, if you’re coming in on US 123 and turn onto County Road 500 then you will be on that for about 6ish miles before turning left onto County Road 414. You’ll be on that about 5ish miles before turning right onto County Road 423 and on that for about 4ish miles before it basically dead ends into the campground. Make sure someone knows where you’re headed because there isn’t service for at least 15 miles surrounding the site.

Also, look to buy firewood when you’re closer to Newberry, MI or Paradise, MI. They have one rack (like 10 “cubbies”) of wood at the corner of Co. Rd. 414 and Co. Rd. 423, but it goes fast.

Worth the drive.

The Mouth of the Two Hearted River State Forest Campground is located on Lake Superior at the mouth of the Two Hearted River. There are 39 camp sites on a first come first serve basis. This campground is absolutely one of my favorite campgrounds in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. All of the sites are nice and decently level. They are separated into two sections, section #1 and section #2. The sites in section #1 are closer to the suspension bridge that connects the campground to Lake Superior. Section #2 is a little farther from the bridge, down a short dirt road. I picked site 21, which was in section #2 and across the road from one of the pit toilets. There are two well water hand pumps for drinkable water, plenty of trees for hammocks at all of the sites and more than enough to do. The North Country Trail runs right through the campground, there is a boat launch suitable for small boats and kayaks and some of the best sunsets anyone could ask for. The fishing opportunities here are equally amazing with brook trout and steelhead in the river and lake trout, steelhead and salmon in the lake, just to name a few, If I could give one warning before coming to this campground, it would be: DO NOT USE Google maps, Apple maps or GPS to get here. It will be worth every bit to invest in an actual map. There are numerous ORV trails here which come up as the actual roads and I can tell you it can be quite stressful. Even knowing this before coming here I thought I would be able to tell the difference, I can tell you I was absolutely wrong. It was certainly worth it in the end, but if I could go back and avoid that confusion I would. This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and I would recommend the long trip here to anyone. Make sure to bring everything you need, there is nothing forever which is yet another bonus to this fantastic place.

Off the beaten path

Would love to keep this gem as hidden as possible, so hesitate to recommend, but it is really wonderful. Amazing location and super quiet when the ATVs stay away. The drive out is remote and easy to get lost (I thought). A county road map is handy!

A good family camp

Direct access to Lake Superior, and wonderfully scenic river for fishing, and canoeing. It's a great family camping experience, or a nice stop for hiking trip accross the Upper Peninsula.

Great views of Lake Superior

The sunsets from this campground are unreal. The walking bridge over the Two Hearted River takes you to the Lake Superior beach. It has small rocks near shore and lots of sand near the river.

Vault toilets and a water pump are available. Picnic tables are at each site.

This is a fun place to stay with kids.

🏕A little slice of heaven ⛺🛶🌞🌚🌠🏄‍♀️🌅

Mouth of the Two Hearted River Campground is a hidden gem. 30 mile drive on dirt roads is totally worth the dust and bumps. Once you select your campsit and get settled head across the swinging bridge that connects you to the Lake Superior Beach. Enjoy a chilly dip or search for agates and other great lakes rocks. Make sure you stay for the most beautiful sunsets around

Rustic Lake Camping

If you are looking for that off the beaten path rustic campground, this might just be what you are looking for. This rustic campground is located 35 miles north of the town of Newberry on Lake Superior. The first thing you notice driving down the gravel roads is the openness that resulted from a devastating wildfire in late 2011 to 2012.  This is a stark contrast to the woodlands that typify the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but once you drive into the park and campground you see large trees and a nicely wooded campground.

One of the best features of this campground is the access to Lake Michigan and the miles of beach available for walking. We can only imagine how spectacular the fall colors display is with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees.  There are 39 sites all on a first-come, first-serve basis which are suitable for RVs and tent. There are multiple shaded camping sites with quick & easy access to a Lake Superior beach and more sites further back into a more heavily wooded area.  Some of the sites that back up to the lake have short trails that go through the pine trees and lead you to where the mouth of the river spills into Lake Superior. It was great to hang out by the lake because the breeze kept the black flies from driving us crazy. The lakeshore is composed of an amazing array of colored rocks and the water is beautiful. Pit toilets were clean, well-stocked and did not smell (super plus for that). Potable water is available from a hand pump. There isn't cell phone service in that area, which didn't bother us.  This is a very popular place for people who like to explore the area on ORVs as there are hundreds of miles of trails and roads to travel.  A boat ramp is located in the park and has sufficient water depth (approximately 3 feet) to accommodate all boats as well as paddle craft.  There is access to the North Country Scenic Trail from the campground but the black flied made it pretty unpleasant for us.
