Mears lake campground is located right on the beach of Lake Michigan. There are about 5 spots that have water views and the rest are sand dunes, to the lake but an easy climb.
All sites have a bonfire pit and picnic table
Sites are very tight! In the summer months it’s hard to even drive down the street. The fall is a little calmer, campsites are a little more spread out but the cement pads are very small.
Bath house on street two ( nice and clean) Bath house near the water closed in fall
Fire wood is sold up near the beach stands $6 bundle ( cash or Venmo)
The thing we love most about this campground is the easy walk into Pentwater. Brown bear is a good bar with good food.
Campground is surrounded by trees which provide a lot of shade, inner circle sights are close together, some unique set ups but the outside sides are spacious..
Electric hook up with water fill station and dump.
Bathhouse is centrally located
Staff/ owner very friendly and helpful.
Store on property sells wood, ice and other goods.
Cross the street and you arrive at Lake Superior
20 minutes to town 10 miles to lake of the clouds
Book early, these sites go fast!
Campground is very rustic and beautiful, easy trails to Lake Superior from the campground.
RV and tent sites- some have electric and some do not.
Clean and well maintained.
If you are looking for a quiet rustic campground this is for you!
This is our second time at this campground! We love it here.
Sites are a little weird with hook ups on the wrong side and small sites but we make it work!
Cabins are available as well
Easy walk to the lake, the beach is beautiful :)
Site 33 was big and fit our 30ft camper and truck
Site 64 fit a tent The people coming in after us had a 20 foot camper and it was very tight for them, slanted site.
We went on Halloween weekend, this is our second time doing this event. Our kids love it!
The campground offered a haunted trail, trick or treating and crafts for the kids.
Beach - lake access Pool x 2 Playgrounds Jump pad (only open certain hours) Putt putt golf Golf course Basketball court Food trucks
The sites are very close together and not the cleanest. The owners don’t take the best pride in the property.
What a beautiful campground, they have everything to offer. Rustic lakefront sites, electric/ water hook up for RVs or tents.
Our site was 79-A best bridge view, pictures can’t even do it justice. It was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Nice easy trial to the water from our site.
Our site did flood a bit with heavy rain but we would for sure do this site again.
No hook up, so be prepared to boondocking in the lake front sites.
2 dump stations/ water fill up
Offers 2 small playgrounds Bath houses are nice
St ignance town was very cute! We enjoyed going into town.
Near by grocery store available .
Service was good - sprint
The theme of this campground is western and fun. They have so much potential but the main guy is something else. Honestly gut feeling he made me feel so uncomfortable we couldn’t stay.
He made me wait 30 minutes while he went and got beer for a couple. There were two others behind us in line. He said it was $80 a night, when we said ok no thanks he asked us what we wanted to pay. Not trying to negotiate just not paying $80
The property is massive several sites were available, the dumpster was over flowing so bad that a big pile had formed next to it.
Not recommending… didn’t feel safe
Unfortunately I don’t have much to review, we arrived, got our paperwork and headed to our site to find it double booked. With two cranky kids, we went back inside to request a refund. Connor (bar manager) let us know he was not able to refund us. He was very adamant that it was not double booked, after driving down to the site, he said they extended there stay and did not do it right… but there tag said they were leaving the next day, therefore an employee had to write on it. After blaming everyone but taking ownership for the mistake he said he would make them move. They had a camper- tent - EZ up and several toys on the site. We would never want someone to move who intended to stay. We said no please don’t do that just refund us, no problem there are plenty of options near by.
Connor let us know a refund was not happening and he did not have authority to do so. I requested a call from someone above him, at this time he let me know I could call John tomorrow. I let him know he needed to explain the issue to John and have him call me,
John GM was very professional and refund us. I am not writing this to bash the campground I have no idea if we would have liked it but more important how its customer service / the face of your company is so important. Connor blamed me several times for this issue, denying to take responsibility for the double book. I honestly don’t care what happen, just give me my money back. Unfortunately we will never recommend this due to this experience.
When you arrive make sure you have read all the rules prior to paying! There are several rules which aren’t bad, just unique. Just make sure you want to be there.
We only stayed here one night but the kids had a lot of fun, they have a lot of outdoor toys. There were kids everywhere.
Outhouse and showers were clean
Electric hook up
Filled water at dump station We stayed in site 10 it was quiet and away from the core of the noise
Friendly staff Seasonals were a little wild and loud, I like to have fun so it didn’t bother me much but they didn’t always watch the kids, only complaint.
6 minutes back into the town near the River is a little gas station / general store —- best Pasties!
Cabins available Rustic tent sites available
$48 after tax site 10 electric travel trailer site.
Site 38 backs up to the new playground This was one of the largest sites We absolutely loved it, easy to see kids at the park and still enjoy the campsite.
Make sure to check with ranger katie she offered events for the kids to attend, almost daily.
Electric only Fill up with water before entering the campground Dump station near entrance
Bathhouse was nice and cleaned often.
Boat launch near entrance had a dock with picnic table, beautiful view and good fishing spot.
General store to the left when you exit the campground
Back in town about 20 minute drive they had a grocery store Pats and dollar general. This is the nearest gas station, make sure you are full before exploring the parks.
Easy trails: Lake of the clouds - 5 minute drive Summit peak- 15 minute drive Presque isle - 25 minute drive ( three waterfall options here)
All had a lot of stairs but worth it Our 5 and 3 year old did ok, we did end up putting the 3 year old in a carrier.
Water front sites are beautiful but all rocks, when you turn left out of the campground and head towards town there are several pull offs for beach access :)
Sprint service was ok, hit and miss
Flys were not bad when it was windy, little annoying some nights but we kept a fan running under the awning and it seemed to solve the issue.
We went end of August
Wonderful experience at this campground! We had site 45 which is right on the water with a small lighthouse in the background. The breeze off the water kept us cool. I wish we would have had more time at this campsite it was clean and the employees were very friendly. The bathhouse was very clean and centrally located so easy to walk too. The hook ups looked new and we’re on poles that lite up at night for easy use.
The playground is towards the front of the campground, our kids enjoyed playing on it. There is a public access area near by that shared the park access.
We will go back for sure! Kitch iti kipi was a short 15-20 minute drive, they open at 8am if you get there at 8 there was not a line.
They offer tent camping spots as well. WiFi was good and cell service Sprint was good.
Campsite is located 2 miles from downtown Pentwater, adorable small town on the water. Mears state park is 2 miles from the campground as well, Lake Michigan beaches. The playground on the beach is perfect for younger kids. There is a pavilion that serves hot food and ice cream ( hot food ends at 5pm/ ice cream till sunset.) Our kids loved walking in town and heading to the beach.
With that said, there is plenty to do at the campground . Outdoor pool, AJs (putt- putt golf, arcade, playground, go-karts) extra fee for AJs but reasonable priced, basketball court, volleyball court, small baseball diamond, tennis table, general store, shower house by pool ( very clean), private bonfire pits ( most campsites).
Seasonal’s were very friendly and helpful with local things to do. RV camp, Tent camp, or tent cabin.
Dump station available, firewood for sale, ice for sale, general store has several camping items, 15 minutes away is meijer in ludington. 2 minutes away gas station 2 minutes to Lake Michigan beaches 2 minutes to Pentwater downtown shopping
Unfortunately this campground is one we don’t see a need to return to. It’s worth a one time visit but is missing several key things we enjoy about camping.
Pros: Campground shares a common area with the light house, walking over to the lighthouse was a fun experience. The new playground was a hit for the kids, one of the best playgrounds we have experienced at a state park.
Park provided several out houses, they do a very good job keeping them clean.
Lighthouse provided an area to sit and watch sunset, beautiful sunset! Walk past the fog building and follow the trail to the water :)
The views and trails are beautiful, local towns are super cute and easy to get to.
Site 4 is shaped weird but beautiful small view of the water and sits up high so you overlook it.
Site 3 is a long site, level and straight back. Nice site for campers
Site 2 fits a pop up nice and has a path to site 3 good for group camping
Cons: raccoons are insane! They are not afraid of anything. We were very good about putting everything away so we only had them visit our site a few times but the dumpster is full of them. They will walk right up to you. Not enjoyable at all! Bugs are pretty bad as well, mainly at night!
No shower house for those who would need one. Lake was lined of film so you couldn’t even rinse off.
There is no beach, you have water front which is beautiful but no beach. The water front is very rocky, and full off a brown sticky film that smelled bad, if you went over to the lighthouse it got better but still nasty. Nearest beach was a 5 minute drive and a 2 mile hike, it was fun but not ideal with tons of little kids.
We have been camping for years, tent, RV, hammock. Doesn’t matter what you are in as long as you are having a good time. Unfortunately the camp host ruined it for us, we did have our RV on this trip, 100 degrees and we have two littles. We were on a two week camping trip, spending the first 5 at this site and then heading to another, we left after 3. We notified neighbors if we needed to turn our generator on and tried not to since we have solar, with the high temps we needed to a few hours at a time. Quiet hours are after 10pm- 8 am so technically we could run it all day, understanding the desire for the nature noises we limited it. The campground host told us at 8pm our inverter generator needed to be turned off, at this time our littlest was finishing her breathing machine so we couldn’t and she got an attitude, we felt we were very respectful the entire time about this, the DNR notified us that we were okay and it was not a problem at all but we were over it by then. (this bad experience toward the end was due to our choice to bring an RV over tent.) If tenting you would not run into this issue.
If we take away our issue with the camp host inability to communicate respectfully we still would have left early. Maybe it was a bad year for the water, I should have looked into the beach area prior to going. Not enough pros to go again.
Campground was nice in the winter our spot was plowed out and had a reserved cone at it, the bathrooms are closed and water is off but the outhouse is open.
Right on the water! It’s so beautiful, there are stairs over the hill or you can walk down to the main beach entrance.
Across the road is the Winter complex, sledding, skating, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and luge course. Our kids had a blast here, they have tons of bonfire pits as well.
Beautiful view Dump near by it can get smelly and hospital local can be noisy, neither bothered us. Right on the water, very close to town, good park in town but not super kid friendly.
One cabin
They view is worth it!
Close to the falls, local bar open in summer minimal winter hours.
Beautiful look outs, site seeing, hikes, snowshoeing and good snow mobile trails in the area.
Local store- minimal supplies (essentials) In paradise
Rustic lots
Well kept, plenty of trails and room for adventures. The falls are beautiful and 20 minutes from several more falls.
Electric and water
Playgrounds and grass area for kid fun. Love this campground
It’s always nice to have a lake near by, not very busy.

They offer all types of camping
The lake has water activities you can pay extra for if you would like to do that.
