Best Campgrounds near Zwolle, LA

The Toledo Bend Reservoir area near Zwolle, Louisiana features multiple campgrounds with diverse accommodation options. San Miguel Park, operated by the Sabine River Authority, provides tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals with lake access. Nearby Cypress Bend State Recreation Area offers 68 RV sites with full hookups and 10 waterfront cabins. The region spans both Louisiana and Texas sides of Toledo Bend, one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, with camping facilities managed by state parks, the Corps of Engineers, and the National Forest Service.

Road conditions throughout the area vary by location and season, with some campgrounds featuring paved access while others require navigation on gravel or dirt roads. Most developed sites provide water and electrical hookups, though primitive camping areas have limited or no facilities. "Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp," noted one visitor. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winters are generally mild. Heavy rainfall can affect water levels and campsite conditions, particularly in spring. Cell service is generally available but can be spotty in more remote areas.

Waterfront camping represents a significant draw for visitors to the region, with many campgrounds offering direct lake access. Fishing opportunities abound, as Toledo Bend is consistently rated among the top bass fishing lakes in the country. Several campgrounds provide boat ramps, fishing piers, and swimming areas. A camper described their experience: "We stayed at site #45 for the weekend. The site had a really nice wooden deck and a lovely view of the lake. There was a short walking path to the dock which we left our boat at with no problems." Wildlife viewing opportunities include bald eagles during winter months. Campgrounds in the Kisatchie National Forest section offer more secluded experiences with hiking trails and creek access. Visitors should be aware that some areas experience significant weekend traffic, especially during peak fishing seasons and summer holidays.

    Love's RV Stop-Mansfield LA 858

    Great staff!

We stayed here overnight on our way from Florida back to Idaho and needed a/c lol. Nothing special here really a parking lot, but hook ups!! The staff was exceptional though! We blew a tire and everywhere was closed, so we had to drive to Shreveport and they let us stay as long as we needed to the next day until we got it fixed. The night staff were awesome too and very informative of the area.

Fort Polk MWR South Toledo Bend

    Nice get away from base

This is a private campground for military, veterans, and their families. They have cabins, yurts, and tent sites. We stayed in a yurt and it was very comfortable. Nice clean beach and plenty of boat rentals. Fishing is good too.

    Cypress Bend State Rec Area

Peaceful Lakeside Getaway with Great Amenities 🌲🎣

We had a fantastic stay at Cypress Bend State Recreation Area! The park is beautifully maintained and set on the edge of Toledo Bend Lake, offering some truly scenic views, especially at sunset. We stayed at one of the RV sites—super convenient with full hookups(water, sewer, and electric), and the grounds were quiet and peaceful. The waterfront cabins also looked very cozy and well-equipped—definitely planning to try one next time. Highlights for us were the renovated beach area, clean restrooms, and the lighted fishing pier, which made evening fishing a treat. There's also a playground and volleyball court, which is great if you're bringing kids. The$2 entrance fee is more than reasonable, and the staff was friendly and helpful, especially with late arrival check-in info. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing nature escape, whether you're camping, fishing, or just looking to unwind by the lake! https://scriptbaldeball.com/

    Boles Field Campground

Small Rest stop with dump station

This rest stop has plenty of picnic tables, some grills, restrooms available and a dump station. Ididn't see any camping/ or overnight signs so it should be ok to stay there. Only downside it's that there isn't a lot of spots available for RV/trucks for cars it's ok.

    Dogwood Camp

    Ok campground but free

Wooded and close to road with traffic all night. Bathroom with flush toilet and cold water hand sink but not supplied and not swept. Water faucets and trash receptacle available. Verizon 2 bars and no problem. I would not make a special trip but if going by would stay again. It’s free however!!
