Pioneer Playhouse Campground

With 35 sites featuring 30-amp electric and water hookups, Pioneer Playhouse Campground provides basic amenities including showers, restrooms, and a dump station. The campground operates year-round alongside Kentucky's oldest outdoor theater, which runs five productions during summer months. Sites have gravel and grass pads with limited spacing between them, and many appear to accommodate long-term residents.

Reservations are available for this privately managed facility, though first-come, first-serve options exist. The campground sits close to Danville's supplies and dining options, with several bourbon distilleries and historical sites in the surrounding area. Campers wanting more elbow room might consider Chimney Rock Campground to the north.

More Like a Homeless Camp Than an RV Park

It was a complete mess and the area looked neglected. To make things worse, the staff were rude and unhelpful when we asked questions. Definitely not a place we’d recommend.

Beautiful and Quiet

Not many first come first serve sites, but if you can snag a spot you will be rewarded with a peaceful evening. There is a theatre insight which is 70 years old and full of history. Amazing people, close to town and very inexpensive.

This is all about the theater...not the camping

This place has some fascinating history and a unique outdoor summer stock theater experience. The oldest outdoor theater in Kentucky with 5 productions running through the summer months. Definitely a good time and casual dining evening with stories of many famous faces that have graced the stage: John Travolta, Lee Majors, Jim Varney...to name a few. The campground has 35 sites with little elbow room; all have electric(30 amp) and water, gravel/grass pads, shower facilities and bathrooms, and they do have a"rustic" dump station. Many of the sites seem to have long term tenants...so this is best for a one night stop and a show. The town of Danville has what you need for supplies and dining, loads of historical sites in the area and of course there is a Bourbon Distillery that must make the list of activities. pioneerplayhouse.com/visit-us/campground/
