Small, quiet campground just off I-135, (Exit 40) in a country setting. We have all pull-through sites with choice of 30 or 50 amp hook-ups. Tent camping available. Nature trail with lots of birds along a nice creek. Laundry facilities and a nice Chinese restaurant next door. Lovely coffee shop and one of the state's newest Casey's just the other side of the interstate. Centrally located near many Kansas attractions.

West Shore - Cheney State Park

    Just passing through

We only picked this location based on our cross country road trip. We only needed one night, but had to pay for two nights (it was on a weekend, but this place was no where near full, so the demand isn’t there to warrant a 2 night requirement). On top of that, we had to pay another $5 just to enter the park to get to our campsite. Campers near us looked like they were living there full time. The sites in the grass by the lake seemed to be much nicer when we drove by. Our gravel site was filled with any hills and micro trash. Campers 2 sites down from us was full of kids throwing their empty caprisun drinks on the ground (not the parks fault). Also the bathrooms are extremely dated and gross. Not sure what they are using the entrance fee for, but it doesn’t appear to be for upkeep.

Mulberry Campground — Kanopolis State Park

    Cicada City

Nice easy place to pitch a tent or hang a hammock. Primitive campground is well maintained and largely unoccupied because of the lack of hookups for RVs. Stayed on 4th of July and only one other family was in the entire campground. Close to swimming beach, but bring your own water as there is no spigot nearby. Great birds too!

    Kingman State Fishing Lake

The campground is quiet Highway 400 is not

About 10 drive-through sites requiring a turning radius my 20 foot trailer could hardly manage, spaced out quite nicely mostly right on the bank of the fishing pond. Most people would not consider a body of water where you can see the bottom as a lake, that would be a pond. Kansas State fishing lakes are mostly ponds. this one is shallow enough. I think you could walk across it in waders. The highway noise is not too bad. It's been so windy here with severe thunderstorm warnings that you cannot hear the highway traffic. Picnic tables, fire rings and a pit toilet. That's it. They recently buried some culverts under the road which should prevent any future washouts. But beware the sandy road base could get you stuck.

    Spring camping

We stayed at this federal campground 3/29/24 for free. 126 sides and I think there were four RVs here. No hookups or water (That's why it's free) but it had one open pit toilet. Beautiful views, felt very safe. A bit windy. Hopefully everybody will take care of this place & not abuse the privilege of staying here in the winter for free.

    Cheney State Park Campground

    Year round camping available

We stayed overnight with our trailer en route. There are specific sites available year round that have water and electric available. These are located in the Marina and Lakeside campgrounds on the East side. The water spigots are insulated. 50 amp available at Marina campground only. 30 amp at both. Being winter, it’s pretty sparse, dry, and windy. For an overnight, it was an affordable stay.

My only complaint is that the available sites aren’t clearly communicated. We drive to every site until we found the right one. Wish they would update that info for winter camping.

Dump stations available! Unfortunately not for human consumption (see pic) :D

    Much larger than expected.

We Didn't stay here, we opted for FHU elsewhere. Much larger than expected, tons of spots that can fit large rigs. All dirt roads that can get muddy.

    Nice Overnighter

Pleasant small family owned campground. Lyndel was very sweet. Hot showers with lots of water pressure, laundry room and full hookup. If you need a spot to take a break from driving, this is a nice spot.

    Venango Park

Great for a stopover, reset, or water lovers!

    Pros:

    - easy to get to from I-70

    - friendly camp hosts

    - lots of grass to walk dogs

    - beautiful sunsets

    Cons:

    - 35 minutes one way to the nearest town with major stores like Walmart and Petco

    - people did not care about walking through my waterfront site to get to the water (there were other ways)

    - site was pretty sloped back to front and side to side but just bring leveling blocks and you're fine

    - dump station didn't provide a water hose for cleaning the sewer hose after dumping even though it had water connection but must provide own hose

I didn't use the bathroom facilities and forgot to test speed but I had zero issues with Verizon or AT&T.

    Love camping here

We love camping here because the campsites are decent size and they have cabins for our family without campers or tents. We also enjoy the lake and playgrounds for the kids. It is close to home but a nice getaway.

    Nice spot for a night

Seems like a nice spot for the night. I appear to be the only person here tonight but have had several cars drive through. There is a vault toilet here but no doors. I dont see any trash cans here. I can hear a little road noise but I also hear lots of nature noises. Birds, frogs, owls and more. I would probably stop here again if it was on my way.

    Quiet simple park

We stayed a night and it was everything we needed. Showers were nice. They were over run with bugs but that was to be expected since it's early May. Park was a little unlevel so definitely need to bring extra wood to level correctly. We paid $12 for the night since we got in super late otherwise it's $25 a night. Also saw a dump station that was free.

Every spring I look forward to getting out of the city and relaxing peacefully at this beautiful Lake! I love the gorgeous sunsets, the beach area, the hiking trails, and picking guitar with my besties! There's nothing better than being submerged in mother nature and I can't think of a better place to do it!!

Perfect spot for a night or two

Fantastic, free camping! Just a short jaunt off the highway making it super easy to get to. Did hear a little bit of traffic from the road, but nothing bad at all. Each camp site has a picnic table and fire ring.

Separated RV stalls with covered concrete padio

One of the nicer lakes I’ve been to, and cheap, the road is a little rough, but it’s a neat place. Boat dock is very steep, small boats only. Pay online is very easy. Shorter RV trailers are preferred. 30 amp service.

    Great Stop Over

Also known As: Camp The Range

Just outside of Wichita, near WSU is this tucked away tree lined RV park. There are a lot of monthly campers (remote workers, nurses, etc), but mostly all have very nice setups!! Very clean park.

We stayed overnight on our way to Colorado. It’s a bit pricey, but there are pull through sites, full hookups, clean bathrooms with showers - which we utilized so we didn’t have to empty our tanks, laundry, and a full kitchen.

The bathrooms were clean with adequate pressure and warmth.

The game room/kitchen had plenty of books and entertainment. The actual kitchen area was great to have so again, we didn’t have to use our tanks to wash dishes.

Didn’t do laundry but looked like plenty of machines.

The back end of the park has a big stretch for dogs to run around and exercise. They provide bags and bins in two locations.

There’s also a playground, we just didn’t venture down that way.

Wi-Fi works great. Able to update some apps and stream on our Roku bar.

Only complaint is how on top of each other the trailers are, but that being said, it worked out great for our needs!

$25 FHU, easy, in a nice small town

As we were visiting Hutchinson during the state fair, Hutch's RV sites were all booked - but here were some spaces, not so far off. Larry was easy to communicate with by phone and text. We weren't given an arrival deadline, no forms or markers -  had our choice of the available spots - Paid by check with a note in the drop box. Minimalist place - (washer& dryer in the shed with the drop box - no bath house). There's a cafe nearby open at 6am.
