Cedar River Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Highway noise is part of the experience at Cedar River Campground in Tipton, Iowa, and reviewers are upfront about it. Situated close to the interstate, the campground sits on open, flat terrain along the Cedar River, and sound carries freely when you're outside. As Jenny put it, "Yes, you hear traffic, but it didn't bother us." Campers in hard-sided rigs report the noise drops considerably once inside, making this a more workable stop for RV travelers than for tent campers who prefer quiet surroundings.

The campground runs April 15 through October 15 and has full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, plus showers, WiFi, and a dump station. Nightly rates run $35 to $50. Reservations are available and pets are allowed. On-site amenities include a pool, mini-golf, and a playground, which reviewers with kids have found useful for a weekend stay. James M. notes it as a "seasonal cg along the Cedar River with camp store, ice, wood, propane, showers/restrooms." The river access adds a practical draw for paddlers and anglers.

Sites are close together. Multiple reviewers note that spacing is tighter than at rural campgrounds, particularly for tent campers. RV travelers tend to find the density more workable, consistent with what you'd expect from an established RV park layout. The campground also has a mix of nightly and long-term seasonal campers, which shapes the overall atmosphere.

Ownership has changed in recent years, and reviews from 2022 onward reflect that transition, with some visitors reporting improvements and others raising concerns about management consistency and site maintenance. Campers considering a longer stay or seasonal arrangement should read recent reviews carefully before committing. For a single overnight stop along a cross-country route, the full hookups and on-site amenities cover the basics efficiently. Those wanting to compare nearby options can look at Hunt's Cedar River RV Campground or Hidden River Campground in the same corridor.

Cedar River Campground makes the most sense for RV travelers who need a functional overnight stop with full hookups and don't mind road noise, or families looking for a short stay with kid-friendly activities within reach.

Owners are credit card thieves

I would give it a zero if I could. Uneven pads for camper, right next to interstate and loud, neighbors so close it is unreal. Do not believe the pictures online posted those are campsites for permanent seasonal campers in the back. I was told the cost was $650 a month then charged $718 on my card. Campers are placed tongue to the back of your neighbor in front of you camper. so if one wants to move out you have to pack up your camper and move yours to a temporary spot for a couple of days so they can get out then pack up your camper again and move it again. They broke the contract doing that with us so instead of signing a new contract on a new spot we went ahead and went to another campground. Owner (which you never see, never picks up phone or has an office you can go to) continually tries to charge my credit card a large sum of money because she is mad. Update three weeks later still trying to charge my credit card various amounts. We didn’t even complete the whole month we paid for and did not ask for a refund for the days not stayed so technically they owe us money. Also you are not allowed to have any mail sent to you if renting monthly' and there was a lot of trash and illicit drug use going on in the campground.

Fun for the Family

Not our typical campsite but we had the kids down for the weekend and we thought a campsite with a pool and mini golf would be a fun break from the norm. Sites are really close if you’re a tent camper but it is good as far as RV parks are concerned

Dirty, bathrooms are nasty, Sites are unlevel and next to the interstate

Owners bought the campground in 2022 and have ruined it.Over 80 seasonal families gone in a matter of a year.  They are just not a nice family.  They don't mow, they don't keep the Cedar River landing clean, they have music until 2 and 3 in the morning.... NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY at all. Just LOOK INTO THEIR BACKGROUNDS.... The owners are thieves, liars and not good people!!! They moved here from the Nebraska/Iowa boarder and MAN DO THEY HAVE A BAD BACKGROUND!!! Totally research before you put your camper out there. They have not given deposits back. They have kicked seasonal campers out in June, July and August with NO REFUNDS!

Cedar river campground

Camped there for years. Never again. Last 2 years under current owners\ management, I would not spend another dime there. They are nothing but drama. Behind office towards owners home looks like a salvage yard. They have removed families who have camped there for years. Only ones left are scared, no place to move to, or suck up to them for special privileges. Last two years were horrible. Will only return if sold to again new owners who care about campers vs money.

Perfect getaway!

Recently under new ownership, you can tell they’ve been working hard getting the place going again. Yes, you hear traffic, but it didn’t bother us. They had a great fireworks display for the fourth. Spots are tighter than what we prefer, but will be back again.

Friendly, green scenery, a bit noisy

We stopped over for the night, and it was a good respite. They have mini-golf, a nice pool and a creative rugged play area for the kids. Unfortunately, the pool was closed for the evening cleaning, so we didn't get to use it. There was a beautiful wetland just down from the campground. It is right off the highway, so it was loud when we were outside, but we couldn't hear it at all when we were in our Tab 400. The manager, son of the owner, was really nice and helpful. His mom has owned the RV park for 27 years and ready to retire. There are some friendly seasonal and long-term residents who are in a separate section, but you see them driving through on their golf carts and are super fun and gregarious.

Lots of highway noise but convenient

Very standard rv spots feet from the highway. Hosts are very amicable. Perfect for what we needed, a quick stop on our drive across country. Appears to be lots of activities for kids/families during the day.
