Hike-in access means arriving on foot, and water, though available on site, has to be carried in from the source. Camp John Schultz includes five primitive sites, each with a fire ring and bench, set in dense forest atop a hill near Iowa's only fire tower. Cell service is available at the hilltop. Campers planning a longer stay in the area can find campsites near Yellow River State Forest at varying levels of development. Pack insect repellent for summer visits, and bring enough containers to carry water from the source to your site.
Description
You may hear a cow moo at the hike-in sites in Camp John Shultz but you’ll not likely hear people. If you do have to share the camp, there are five segregated campsites that are well spaced and feel private. Sites range from partial shade to full shade and all but two have fire rings.
