Unimpressive and crowded

The campsite is considered to be primitive, which is fine, but it is right along the trail without any cover. All the campsites are one on top of the other without any cover in between or from the trail. They were all taken and incredibly packed during the Memorial Day weekend and honestly seemed…

Giant City State Park

We came down for a spontaneous camping trip to explore SNF and found Giant City to be a great place to stay. We stayed in the primitive camp site, while there were others there, everyone was dispersed far enough that it felt private. Camp grounds were clean, quiet, and the camp host and park ranger…

In need of attention. Illinois needs to invest in parks

State park...really not much to do if you do not fish.  Pit toilets that need attention shower house by the boat ramp ( outside of campground) that were filthy.  They are used by everyone...not just campers so the abuse was evident.  Many large groups camped together which was cool....but the…

Great stay

Sites and bathrooms super well maintained. Sites were big and tucked away into pretty nooks. Close to some awesome hikes, Jackson falls was a fav. Fsho will return

Ok but crowded

The grounds are well maintained. Lots of nice tall trees for shade and grass is mowed on the regular.  There are a few spigots around for fresh water. There a couple hiking trails. But, the RV sites are very close together, so don't expect privacy or quiet days/evenings at least in the Pine Ridge…

zero maintenance run down smelly

Overwhelming smell of dead fish that are laying aplenty on the shores of Ohio Rv. as there is no staff to clean up. Add to this general malaise of zero maintenance mowing or repairing decrepid sites and you get the picture. Did have 30 amp to drive my AC that covered the sound of the work crew…

Good, wooded sites

We stayed 2 nights at site 6 in May. It was a roomy, wooded site with water and electric for $22/night. Unfortunately, there was SO MUCH poison ivy that we couldn't play in the woods. But we enjoyed our stay on the beautiful lake! Decent bathrooms and playground but not great. The shower never did…

Nice location and sites, rough road, first come first served

This small campground is nice once you get there!  Just know it is remote and the road to get there is rough, so, if you are not comfortable with that, I would go elsewhere.  There are no hookups, although water is available.  Also there are pit toilets which are not the worst I have seen!  No cell…

Lovely stay!

This campground was perfect! Surrounded by nature and hiking trails, you’ll find 21 campsites (all without electricity). It’s $10/night and there’s a self pay station. There are 2 vault toilets (one has the handle broken off the door) but both super clean and fully stocked. I arrived around 3:30pm…

Quick and Easy Primitive Camping

Car camped without any issues but it’s worth mentioning that I didn’t have T-Mobile cellphone reception and the bathroom was a bit dirty. Also there was a shallow creek crossing right before the camping areas that I was worried about when I arrived at night, but I realized in the morning that it…

Great, kid family fun

Wanting to explore some of the Shawnee Forest, we selected Giant City as it was recommended by a friend (and one of the few places that accepts reservations ahead of time!)  The campsite was good and we loved that it backed up to some woods, which our kids explored often.  The vault toilets were…
