In need of attention. Illinois needs to invest in parks

State park...really not much to do if you do not fish.  Pit toilets that need attention shower house by the boat ramp ( outside of campground) that were filthy.  They are used by everyone...not just campers so the abuse was evident.  Many large groups camped together which was cool....but the…

Ok but crowded

The grounds are well maintained. Lots of nice tall trees for shade and grass is mowed on the regular.  There are a few spigots around for fresh water. There a couple hiking trails. But, the RV sites are very close together, so don't expect privacy or quiet days/evenings at least in the Pine Ridge…

Shady Rest campground

Really great campground. Good mix of tents and RVs. Bath house was very well kept and clean. Showers ran cold at first but after a few mins it gets warmer! There were plenty of pit toliets through out the campground and trash cans. My tent site was clean, good flat spot for tent, picnic table and…

Primitive but beautiful

Very primitive camping. Toilets only, but the campsites are spaced comfortably apart. The grounds are well maintained.

Conveniently Located

Friendly and quiet, concrete pads, easy hook-ups, good internet, and paved streets. IMO’s Pizza delivers. Don’t plan to sleep late during the work week though because mowing, weed whacking and leaf blowers may start at 8:00am.

Today they are removing the old concrete pad next to us while we…

Nice campground, lots of noise

The campground was nice and very clean. There were a lot of families with kids, which is no big deal, except for they were playing who can scream the loudest and longest, which was a little annoying. You could also hear cars and sirens from the highway. A couple times through the night we heard…

Not too crowded, plenty to do

We went camping for a weekend to welcome in Spring 2021 (March 20) and it was CROWDED. The RV side of the park was completely full and there was only 2 or 3 open sites for the “primitive” sites, fortunately one of those empty sites was right next to us

Although our stay was nice, i feel like it…

Family experience

Nice place to ride utv’s, 4 wheelers, even your jeeps. Holiday weekends are a bit crazy but overall it’s a pretty good place to ride. The rules are kinda strict. Things like, No bug lights, don’t even think about getting on there grass. Big NO NO! There’s more but that was the ones that got my…

Quiet campground

We spent a few days here enjoying exploring the area! There has been quite a bit of rain and the water levels were high. Water wasn’t on at the campground yet - and there are not hookups at each campsite.

Close to the City

Quieter despite the surroundings. Due to foliage, seems much more spacious and nature rich.

Rvs and trailers

Small campground ground ram by saint louis county parks. We were the only ones here. Heavy equestrian park, it’s not required (to have a horse) to stay here. A few piles of horses droppings but very well maintained. We stay about 30 feet to the right of the horse pin, and behind it where they dump…

Out of state trip without the out-of-state travel!

Hawn State Park is a park like no other. Nowhere else in the state of Missouri have I been able to camp and feel like I'm in the middle of the Rocky Mountains.  The car camping area is nestled in the middle of a pine filled valley.  There's nothing more refreshing than sitting in the evening and…

Quiet and serene

We stayed here on a Tuesday evening in early November. It was election night so we were happy to not have a cell signal for the night. 😊 The sites are all walk in but it’s a short walk from your car to the site. Very rocky ground so be careful where you put your tent. Pit toilets are located at…
