We are combining easy access to kayaking, biking, canoeing, fishing, geocaching and hiking all in one great place! We make it FUN! We are even just steps away from historic downtown Morris, which features antique shops, novelty stores and great restaurants. We feature full sand beaches on the Illinois River and we are adjacent to the historic I & M canal and towpath featuring fishing, hiking, biking and geocaching.

Our Campground is specifically for families, youth and those with the utmost respect for the Great Outdoors! We cater to those that seek to escape to the wilderness and spend relaxing time with their friends and family. We pride ourselves in limiting camping privileges to families, youth and those that are truly outdoor enthusiasts.

Kayak Morris

We are located just 10 minutes from beautiful Starved Rock as well as three other State Parks (Illini, Buffalo Rock and Mathieson State Park). There are plenty of outdoor activities to do here like hiking any of the trails, visiting canyons near by, fishing, kayaking or rafting down Covel Creek. Sky Dive Chicago and Zip Chicago are nearby for exciting local attractions if you're looking for more of an adrenaline rush. Want to get dinner? Feel free to start a fire and make easy campstyle dinners. We are also close to Downtown Ottawa, right over the Veterans Memorial Bridge, with a wide variety of restaurants. Our campsite transforms at night with beautiful sunsets and awesome star gazing on clear nights. Come pitch a tent or hang your hammock with us! **All proceeds go back into Camp Covel Creek, making it a better, more enjoyable environment for the next family.

Kayak Starved Rock Campground

Rolling Oaks Campground is located 7 miles south of Sandwich, Illinois right along the Fox River. The park has been family owned and operated since 1969! The season is open mid-April through mid-October weather dependent. 

Rolling Oaks is a fantastic place to visit for the whole family. There is fun for children and adults and the property includes activities such as: playground, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and plenty of special events. During the summer there is music and dancing on Saturday evenings, farmers markets, cart rides. There are also special dinner events like spaghetti supper, corn boil, and pig roast. 

The campground has outdoor swimming in their maintained lake. There is a propane exchange station, a dump station available, firewood for sale, and a snack bar with burgers, pizza, and other foods. Nearby Sandwich has shopping, dining, and laundromats available. 

Rolling Oaks Campground

The Hennepin Canal State Park is not enrolled in the ReserveAmerica camping reservation system and DOES NOT take camping reservations. Camping at the Canal is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are no set check-in or check-out times. The Canal’s site security officer makes rounds to each campsite to collect camping fees, in-person. Campers can pay by cash or check.

Camping along the Hennepin Canal towpath is PROHIBITED – camping is only allowed in the designated campsites. Fires are only allowed in the state designated fire pits at the campgrounds. Camping is not permitted in the main complex area (the area around the visitor center).

Currently, the ONLY DRINKING WATER available on the ENTIRE canal is located at the main parking lot in front of the visitor center at the large shelter. There is also a faucet on the side of the visitor center, just to the left of the main entrance. There are no operable drinking water fountains along the rest of the canal so bring your own water for your hike or camping trip. 

Hennepin Canal Lock 6 Campground

The Windy City isn’t exactly synonymous with camping and the outdoors. However, if you know where to look, you’ll be surprised at just what you can find. With a handful of lakes, parks, and conservation areas, you may just find a hidden gem in Illinois.

The best camping near Chicago is found south of the city in the Des Plaines State Conservation area, near Joliet, IL. If that doesn’t suit you, head to the campgrounds at Camp Bullfrog Lake in the Palos Preserves area. This is actually recognized as an International Dark Sky place, so you’ll be able to enjoy unbridled night skies while still remaining close to the city. Best of all, they offer tent and RV accessible campsites.
