We feature full sand beaches on the Illinois River and we are adjacent to the historic I & M canal and towpath featuring fishing, hiking, biking and geocaching.

Our Campground is specifically for families, youth and those with the utmost respect for the Great Outdoors! We cater to those that seek to escape to the wilderness and spend relaxing time with their friends and family. Kishauwau Cabins offers getaway cabins for short term rentals all year round. Our beautifully constructed cabins offer a blend of country charm equipped with modern conveniences. It's strictly cabin rentals here, no tent set ups or RV's.

Cell reception on our property is spotty & there is no way to know until you get here. We offer free guest wifi in our office to use for something quick (ie. check e-mail or look for things to do in the area but we do not allow people to sit in our office all day on the internet). We also do not allow kids to sit in here on it. We understand that some people need it for work or school and that's fine.

Our property is host to 17 cabins in varying sizes. Spacious and well equipped, these Illinois cabins are spread throughout 65 acres of beautiful wooded landscape on a bluff above the Vermilion River. Catering to large family reunions or a quiet, romantic getaway for 2, we are one of Illinois’ premier cabin rental destinations. Whether you’re putting together a family reunion, needing a family vacation cabin or just a romantic weekend getaway for two, Kishauwau Cabins has what you are looking for.

Each cabin rental comes equipped with basic pots, pans, cooking utensils, and dishes in the kitchen, a covered porch (most with porch swings), a personal outdoor fire pit, an indoor wood stove or gas fireplace (for wintertime use only; contact us for details), and much more.

What would a vacation be without everyone’s favorite family member? We welcome your dog with our four dog-friendly cabins on property.

We simply ask you read our pet policies listed under each dog friendly cabin in the “Cabins” tab or contact us prior to your trip.

Each dog will add an additional $20 plus tax per night to your reservation. Simply list 1 or 2 dogs in the pet field when booking on-line and the system will add the fee for you. I do ask that you notify me in e-mail that you have read and are fine with the policies as we are firm with those.

Cheap firewood, farm fresh eggs $3 a dozen.

Channahon State Park is the official trailhead for the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail. Channahon is an Indian word meaning "the meeting of the waters" and signifies the joining of the DuPage, Des Plaines and Kankakee rivers.

Today, Channahon State Park is under the management of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and provides park visitors a look back at a historic waterway that transformed a state. Locks 6 & 7 and the original locktenders house at Lock 6 located at the Channahon State Park enable visitors to daydream of a time when one of the loudest noises heard came from a blacksmith pounding out a new set of horse shoes.

Only primitive tent camping is available and gear must be walked to the campsite. Fire rings, picnic tables, and grills are located in the camping area. A drinking fountain and pit toilets are located within a short distance from the camping area. A camping permit must be obtained from the information center.

There’s a lot more to Illinois than the great city of Chicago. Along with this exciting urban hub there are many natural areas where locals and residents alike enjoy getting outside. With 141 parks it’s no wonder the DNR created the motto, “State Parks, Great Parks” in 2013. This phrase is the title of their initiative to continue improvements on local natural areas with upgraded campgrounds and additional staff to cater to the more than 44 million yearly visitors looking for hiking and camping in Illinois.


People from all over the state – and even outside the country – take the short 1.5-hour drive from Chicago to Starved Rock State Park, where they can hike 13 miles of trails offering elevation gains on wooded pathways along the Illinois River. The 18 canyons serve as great places to spot waterfalls after a rain and families love ending the day with s’mores around the bonfire at the nearby Starved Rock State Park campsites. 


Those looking to learn about the state’s heritage while camping in Illinois may head farther south to Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park & Memorial. This 162-acre park is 12 miles southwest of Decatur near Harristown, IL, and features the land where Abraham Lincoln first resided in the state. If you visit be sure to check out the memorials commemorating this important president.


People who want to mountain bike in this Midwestern state will enjoy heading to Palos Park, a forest preserve known for its excellent biking, hiking and equestrian trails that cover over 50 miles of terrain.
