Reservations are available at Geneseo Campground, a privately run operation in Geneseo, Illinois, open April 1 through October 31 with nightly rates running $40 to $95. The layout is deliberately organized: 59 pull-through and 12 back-in slots handle the RV crowd across several loops, while tent sites occupy a separate area near the front of the property, shaded by mature oaks and screened from neighboring sites by a row of bushes. GPS navigation is worth ignoring here. Management proactively contacts guests to warn about a low 10-foot bridge on the default GPS route and provides alternate directions.
The campground sits directly on the Hennepin Canal, which shapes a lot of what visitors do during their stay. Kayak and canoe rentals are available on-site, and the canal connects to access points at Izaak Walton Park just 0.2 miles away, where a larger open section of the canal gives anglers more room to cast for bluegill, catfish, bass, and crappie. Biking is another draw: the surrounding area has roughly 72 miles of trails plus paved country roads. E-bikes, fat tire bikes, and pedal carts are all available to rent on the property.
Cleanliness comes up repeatedly in reviews. "Everyone was nice and very clean shower house," notes Ann C., a sentiment echoed across multiple visits spanning several years. Full hookups include 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. The amenity list also covers WiFi throughout the property, a coin-operated laundry, a dog park, a camp store, propane refueling, an arcade, and four A/C-equipped cabins plus a yurt that sleeps eight.
One recurring note from reviewers: sites are relatively close together, though most report this does not feel oppressive in practice. Gnats and mosquitoes have been mentioned as a nuisance, particularly later in the season. Campers exploring places to camp near Geneseo will find this location useful as a base, with the town itself a short drive away for dining and resupply. Book early for summer weekends, as the campground occasionally hosts themed events that draw larger crowds.
