    Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia

At 9,049 acres, Georgia's largest state park is a hiker's and backpacker's haven. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. Above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook. Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool fed by cool springs. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides. In 1921, FDR came to this part of Georgia to swim in naturally warm springs that offered relief from polio. Today, nearby Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site invites visitors to see his modest home, a museum and the pools that first drew him here. 9,049 Acres 22 Cottages 109 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites 16 Backcountry Campsites 2 Picnic Shelters Group Shelter (seats 95) Group Camp (sleep 75) Pioneer Campground 2 Lakes (15-acre Lake Delanor and 25-acre Lake Franklin) Liberty Bell Swimming Pool Trading Post

    Bluffton, Georgia

White Oak Pastures is a real, live working farm. This means that depending on which accommodation you choose, you may be driving on a dirt road to get there. You may wake up to cattle, sheep and goats, hogs, or poultry roaming just outside of your door. And although we do our best to make our accommodations free of any uninvited guests, you may also occasionally encounter bugs (who are trying to enjoy life in the countryside, just like you). You can dine and shop in downtown Bluffton. Our General Store offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you can stock up on everything from bug spray to snacks for the road. Read more about what to expect during your stay. Most of our cabins do not have TV or Wi-Fi. We find most of our guests actually enjoy this change of pace as a “digital detox” from busy everyday life. We hope you will disconnect from your devices and connect with nature. Don’t worry: if you do need it, free Wi-Fi is available at our General Store. Our on-farm accommodations are certainly pet friendly! We do ask that dogs are kept on leashes while out exploring the farm because we do have guard dogs that roam and protect our herds and flocks from sharp tooth predators. There are a couple of places on the walking tour such as the processing abattoirs that we cannot allow pets. There’s plenty to do in South Georgia. You can stay busy with a tour of our farm, local hikes, and visits to other local tourist attractionsv. We provide custom maps and are happy to make recommendations for local attractions when you plan your visit.

    Pretty state campground

We had some flubs with this campground. We put the wrong address in our GPS resulting in us arriving too late to use the pool. Then we neglected to pick up our paperwork and had to drive back to the main building to get it and we drove past the campground host on duty so we didn’t get firewood. Our campsite was pretty: flat, spacious, shaded with trees, but it was frustrating to drive past the even prettier spots right on the lake and realize that’s what I should have booked!! Several people were out enjoying evening fishing as we drove past to our more woodsy loop.

We were here all of 12 hours - it was a nice stopover on our route further south. Really quiet and absolutely spotless bathhouse! I really was bummed about not getting to the pool (it was not open the next day) - we will come back!

    Nice site, well maintained

I am getting back into camping for the first time in a very long time. Went to FDR State Park because it’s only about 30 minutes from home. Booking site 111 was easily done online. I arrived after the office had closed but my reservation sheet with instructions was left in a box on the door for me to pick up. Great park with nice lake for fishing, kayaking, paddle boating as well many hiking trails. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Visited Dowdell’s Knob which gives a fantastic view…no wonder it was FDR’s favorite picnicking site when visiting Warm Springs. I would definitely recommend and will be back, but next time will be spring or fall because summer was just too hot.

    Beautiful and Clean Campground

Stayed in the 500 series camping area prior to Memorial Day Weekend for two nights. The staff at check in were extremely friendly and helpful. All camping/RV spots in 500 series were well spaced, the ones nearest the lake seem a little more congested. Easy to navigate with my Solis, but a large Class A or trailer would be challenging. The bathroom/shower facilities were some of the cleanest, well kept I’ve ever seen. Hiked to Cascade Falls with my wife and our two dogs (2 miles in/2 miles out). Will definitely go back.

    Nature at its best

Easy booking, check in, and hook up to electric and water. Beautiful, serene surroundings. We didn’t get to do all the fun stuff available like the pool and the hiking trail since it was just an overnight stop but we will be back.

    Great Spring Trip

Booked a couple of adjacent sites to explore the area with friends. The State Park is very well maintained, sites offered enough privacy, bathhouse was very clean, and the weather couldn’t have been better. Visited the Little White House State Historic site and enjoyed the Wild Safari and some good B-B-Q.

    Great park

This is a large park with many loops and sites. There are many good trails in this area. Most sites were large with plenty of extra space. Some sites had decks overlooking the pond. Many were pull through.

    Nice campground, lots of history

Tent camped on site 611 with water and electric.Very close to clean showers. Showers have two private family rooms for added privacy. The 600 series sites appear to be new. Friends used full hookup, pull-through RV just across road. Many shady spots.

Lots of trails in park. President Roosevelt had favorite overlook in park which now has his statue. FDR Little White House and museum are very interesting and only a few minutes away in Warm Springs. Pine Mountain is pretty small town.

    Beautiful Lake Delanor

This review is for FDR #115. Although small, this site has a commanding view of beautiful Lake Delanor. The state park allows 2 tents per site, and we couldn’t have fit 3 anyway. There was just enough room for our Tahoe in the parking area next to the tent pad. Our family enjoyed fishing, walking through the park, and visiting Dowdell’s Knob. We cooked all our meals on our grill and Coleman stove. The picnic table is large and is positioned on a new balcony area, apparently just renovated. The bathhouses are very nice and having a hot shower while camping is really fantastic. Almost every site was occupied during the weekend we were visiting and save a few loud campers on Saturday night, likely off the grid at one of the primitive sites, the main campground was absolutely quiet after 10:00 PM. Some Canadian geese and turtles visited us. The lake itself is stocked with bass and bluegill but no one was really biting. Lovely to sip on your coffee and watch the fog lift off the lake. This state park is a treasure. We loved it and hope to return someday.

    Best Campsite Ever!

This was the best campsite we’ve been to yet. The sites are impeccable, the campground is well maintained, and the sites are spacious. This site has a campground feel with the wooded campground, spaced out sites, mountain view, lake. It also has many great amenities like a pool, and trading post with ice and firewood. not to mention all of the amazing things you can do nearby like hoarse back riding, safari tours, zip lines… we will most definitely come back several times.

    Beautiful and expansive park!

Cabin 1 (one of the original CCC cabins) was perfect for a long Thanksgiving weekend. The cabin feels both rustic and has a modern kitchen, which is great for cooking a celebratory feast. It also has two interior wood-burning stoves, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, so perfect for those chilly nights. We saw some stunning sunsets from the rocking chairs on the side porch. The view over the ridge really makes it feel like you’re in the mountains. We did miss the peak of the fall leaves by a couple of weeks, but we had great hikes every day. Really relaxing trip.

Perfect fall or spring family camping

We found some great spots with plenty of room but there are also “adjoining” type sites if you are camping with other families. Bathrooms are clean but no ventilation. I personally wouldn’t shower in the bathhouse if it’s over 80 degrees outside because it is sweltering. Firewood at the outpost was very reasonable at $5 for a large bundle. Nice playgrounds for the kids.

    Quiet in the mountains

We have stayed st FD Roosevelt several times over the last few years and keep coming back. The lakeside campground provides lake and forest views. They recently added a third new bathhouse which is quite nice and are still renovating the rest of the campground. The only minus is the distance our campsite was from the bathhouse.

Great views, near Roosevelt's Little White House and Warm Springs

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Life size statue of FDR on Dowdell's Knob, where FDR would come to relax and take in the view over King's Gap.

Grocery store available in the town of Pine Mountain (about 15 minutes from campground).

Great base for area sight seeing:

Roosevelt's Little White House State Park

Warm Springs (where Roosevelt would go for the warm springs)

        In Columbus, GA:

    National Infantry on Fort Benning

    National Civil War Navy Museum

    Coca Cola Space Museum

Lovely, shaded, well separated camping spots.

Beautiful campsites with lots of space between sites. Water and electric, with nice level sites. The lake was nice for kayaking...paddle boats, canoes, row boats and kayaks available to rent.

Shady, well spaced camp sites and a nice lake.

Here for two days anf it's beautiful. Kayaked in the lake, saw turtles, a northern water snake and lots of squirrels and birds. Kids fished, but they only caught a turtle which was unhooked and returned to the lake...hopefully a little wiser.

    Great weekend of camping

Love this campground. Our site, #102 , was level, but kinda short for our 40ft camper. Clean bathhouses, friendly staff! Our site overlooked the lake, nice breeze. Trails are nice, long walks through the woods.

We wanted to try to get in other sites, had to plan almost a year out. This park fills quickly.

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

F.D. Roosevelt State Park a natural historical beauty.

This campground offers it all. Set in F.D. Roosevelt State Park you are surrounded by forest, lakes, streams, rock formations and campsites are quiet and private.  We stayed in site #114 directly on the lake.  The state reconfigured some of the sites along the lake and site #114 is no longer on a slope.  Very level space with water, electric and sewer.  Close to a very clean restroom, playground, rental boat ramp and so much more.  Everything a family could want to spend a few days in nature.  Lots to do in the area - Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, city of Columbus, Chattahoochee River, Little White House, etc.  Highly recommend this jewel in Georgia.
