Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

Great views, near Roosevelt's Little White House and Warm Springs

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Life size statue of FDR on Dowdell's Knob, where FDR would come to relax and take in the view over King's Gap.

Grocery store available in the town of Pine Mountain (about 15 minutes from campground).

Great base for area sight seeing:

Roosevelt's Little White House State Park

Warm Springs (where Roosevelt would go for the warm springs)

        In Columbus, GA:

    National Infantry on Fort Benning

    National Civil War Navy Museum

    Coca Cola Space Museum

Could Not Have Asked for Better

I am rather new to tent camping so I really appreciated the helpful folks running the camping area.  Each spot had electricity, water, great internet, picnic table and places to build a fire.  Each site is shielded from the next by trees.  Bathrooms and showers are used but clean.  Clear maps available for hiking or biking.  Nice lake with swimming and boating.  Pet friendly.  Could not have asked for more or better.

    Florence Marina State Park Campground

    Quiet State Park

Had a nice weekend at this small state park. The site was very clean with fire pit, picnic table, and full hook ups including cable. The fire pit had been cleaned out before we arrived which was a nice surprise. The bathhouse was centrally located and was spotless. It included an interior wash room and was heated which was appreciated on the chilly evenings. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Showers also had a separate changing area with plenty of shelves and hooks to keep clothes dry. Loved the recycling on site! The sites are pretty close to each other and because it’s located in a pine forest, there’s not much privacy but enough space to enjoy the patio. We’re glad we checked it out!

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

    Pine Mountain Camp Ground

Well maintained roads. Large sites with choice of full sun or shade site.

Staff is great and his campground allows campfires. Pet friendly with two dog parks. Great pool and has cabins and yurts to reserve. Less than three miles from Callaway Gardens and FDR Park. Town of Pine Mountain...two street lights...very quaint sidewalk shops! This place is a hidden treasure.

    Outdoor recreation happy place!

We stayed at FDR state park for 4 nights and it was a beautiful park with great hosts and great campsites! Bath houses were well-maintained and sites not on top of each other like some other places. They have horseback riding stables and kayaks for rent (but COVID is not allowing rentals). We took our kayaks and used them in Lake Delanor. Our campsite was #312 and it accommodated our 22 ft camper well, had an additional large tent pad, a fire ring and picnic table. We were located next to a group pavilion which we utilized when the rains came down. For dog owners like us, a big green grassy area was located behind our site to walk our 4-legged kids. Totally enjoyable experience and would love to return to backcountry camp and do some trails.

    Chewacla State Park Campground

Easy hike and Family orientated activities

Chewalca State park has more to offer than just hiking. There are several mountain bike trails of varying diffivulties. There is also paddle boating and kayaks available for the lake. Throughout the hike there are canopies and grills where families can hang out. The hike was easy and not very long. The trail loops around the a lake and brings you to a waterfall on the back side of the lake. The waterfall is easy accessible and you can get as close as you wish. The park is also pet friendly.

    Needs updates

Nice park, however needs some up dates. We visited during weekend, which is busy. Don’t want to complain, however “Barking Dogs” the whole time was a bit too much. That rule is not enforced by rangers. Not enough bathrooms, noticed yucky urine smells around campsites. (Peeing in the woods I suppose ). Sunday night-Monday morning, campground little more enjoyable, crowds and barking dogs vacated. However trash bins over flowing with mountain of trash.
WiFi unavailable and Antenna TV not available. Lots of shade, and pretty lake. Bathroom some what clean- one shower (?????). Our site not completely level, notice a lot of wash out gravel in other sites. For the price, I was disappointed with this park. It really could be a nice park with updates. Traveling in C Class.

Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina

    Tent site

Super well maintained tent sites. The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning. Established trash/food hang poles as well as picnic tables next to the fire ring with fold over grill capabilities.

Guide to Louvale

Cabins near Louvale, Georgia provide access to the Chattahoochee River basin with elevations averaging 300-400 feet above sea level. Camping facilities typically remain open year-round, though summer humidity levels can reach 90% during peak season months.

What to do

Boating and fishing access: Lake Eufaula offers jon boat rentals for exploring the 45,000-acre reservoir. "The lake is gorgeous! Sites are well laid out but wide open to every one else. The campground has a miniature golf course on site for a fun time with the kids," notes a visitor to Florence Marina State Park Campground.

Historical exploration: Visit the Native American archaeological site with seven earthen mounds dating back to 350-750 CE. "The mounds are impressive. Lots of history. The park is great," says a camper who stayed at Kolomoki Mounds State Park Campground, which features a museum built into a partially excavated mound.

Providence Canyon hiking: Located 6 miles from Florence Marina State Park, this geological formation resembles a smaller version of Bryce Canyon. "Close to this park is Providence canyon which looks like a small Bryce canyon except it was created by poor farming. It's a neat place to see about 6 miles from the park," reports one visitor who appreciates the unique hiking opportunities.

What campers like

Lake views with sunrise potential: Waterfront sites provide direct access to fishing and boating opportunities. A visitor to Lakepoint Resort State Park Campground notes, "Many campsites are directly on the lake. Very spacious lots. Not far to town."

Clean bathroom facilities: Most parks maintain modern bathhouses with regular cleaning schedules. According to a visitor at Chewacla State Park Campground, "Nice hiking trails, mountain biking trails, a lake, a waterfall, and cabins. What more could you ask for all in one spot? Campground is a bit cramped, but the showers and bathrooms are clean."

Multiple camping styles: Options range from traditional tent sites to RV hookups to rustic cabins. One guest reports about tent camping at the military facility, "Super well maintained tent sites. The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning. Established trash/food hang poles as well."

What you should know

Wildlife awareness: Alligators inhabit area lakes and rivers, requiring caution during water activities. "The park was busy it was Halloween they have a haunted boat ride and a hayride. We rented a boat my husband fished and we drove around the lake. Lots of blooming Lilly's, big oaks with moss, shorebirds and gators," mentions one camper describing their experience.

Limited cell service: Most campgrounds in the area have spotty connectivity. "Cell service was extremely spotty so don't expect to get much in the way of cell or internet service here. Great place to camp and have lots of peace and quiet," reports a visitor describing the digital disconnect at Florence Marina.

Off-season benefits: Fall through spring offers milder temperatures and fewer insects. A camper at Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground shares, "Very clean and shady sights, being upgraded this year. Many trails, a lake and history."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple parks feature designated play areas for children. "This was a fun campground enjoyed with others for the weekend. They have a lake with john boat rentals along with mini golf. There are signs posted to watch for gators," mentions a family who visited Lake Eufaula.

Educational opportunities: Historical sites offer junior ranger programs for children. A parent at Kolomoki Mounds notes, "We learned a lot and our youngest earned to Jr. Ranger Patch. Buddy sites to share. Lots of Geocaching!"

Swimming areas: Designated beaches provide safer swimming options than open water. "We couldn't have asked for a better experience. They have an amazing staff that made us feel welcomed and safe. Their pool and splash pad is nicer than most hotels," reports a family after their first tent camping experience.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose sites away from the water for more level parking and fewer insects. "We stayed in site #16 it has full hook up. The park was busy it was Halloween they have a haunted boat ride and a hayride. Great place to spend Halloween," shares an RV camper at Florence Marina State Park.

Electrical capacity concerns: Some parks have limited amperage that may not support multiple appliances. A camper at Pine Mountain RV Resort notes, "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances."

Supply planning: The nearest substantial grocery stores are typically 10-20 miles from most campgrounds. "Lake is gorgeous, sites are roomy and super level," explains a camper, noting the importance of arriving with necessary supplies for your stay.
