    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Campgrounds near Louvale, Georgia provide access to the region's natural attractions, with options ranging from established state parks to military recreation areas. Providence Canyon State Park Campground features backcountry camping with six primitive sites along a 7-mile loop trail, often called "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon." Approximately 9 miles away, Florence Marina State Park Campground accommodates tent campers, RVs, and cabin stays with full hookups. Additional developed campgrounds include Rood Creek Park Camping, which offers free primitive camping, and Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground with tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals.

Most campgrounds in the area require reservations, particularly during spring and fall when mild temperatures attract more visitors. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Water is a significant consideration when camping in this area; many creek beds in Providence Canyon remain wet year-round with small streams flowing through the canyons. Access to backcountry sites often involves hiking through shallow water. One camper noted, "You WILL stand in about 2 inches of water in some areas when hiking so water proof shoes are almost a necessity. There is a shallow creek with an orange clay bed running through the area."

Several visitors highlight the unique landscape of Providence Canyon as the primary draw for camping in this region. The distinctive red and white clay formations provide scenery more reminiscent of western landscapes than typical southeastern terrain. Campsites at Providence Canyon require backcountry hiking, with distances ranging from 2-3 miles from the visitor center. According to one visitor, "The hikes to the campsites are up and down hill drastically (some places felt like an 80 degree incline) and are usually a two mile hike, so plan accordingly." For those seeking more amenities, mixed-use campgrounds like Florence Marina State Park offer showers, laundry facilities, and boat access to Walter F. George Lake, making it a popular alternative for RV campers wanting to visit the canyon during day trips.

      Cedar Trail RV Park

      Reasonable place for extended stay

We needed a place to stay while visiting our daughter and her husband, who is stationed at Fort Benning. Cedar Trail was the only place we found that had a reasonable monthly rate not much for amenities, but a safe convenience place to stay. Sites are priced by the day the week or the month, so if you book 32 days that’s priced at the monthly rate plus one day not at a prorated monthly rate.

      Great campground, excellent senior price

It’s not often that I award a campground five stars, but this one is well deserving of those stars. We loved everything about this campground and were content to hang out at our site and hike the park, never wanting to leave. The campsites are well spaced so you don’t feel like you are right on top of your neighbors. We stayed in one of the full hook-up, 50-amp sites. The best thing is the price– only $28/night and just $14 for those holding a senior Interagency Park Pass which is great for a full hook-up site. Roads are easy enough to navigate by any size RV. All sites have a fire, picnic table, small wooden table and a lantern hook. Some sites are sloped and you might scrape the back of your RV. Small laundry which had one wash machine and one dryer. The restroom was clean and showers were free. The campground is not really close to anything- about 30-minutes from the town of Eufaula. About 5-10 minutes away is the Fort Gaines where there are a couple of restaurants, gas station, and small market. We were happy to just hang out at our campsites and enjoy the view. There is a small hiking trail that was a nice walk.

      Kolomoki Mounds State Park Campground

      Summer means gnats

Beautiful spot but the gnats were unbearable. Definitely wouldn’t recommend coming in the summer. The facilities were clean and staff was friendly. Also you will have zero phone service so will not be reachable. Recommend downloading an offline map and sharing park phone numbers with family in case of emergency.

      Step back in time

What a charming little place. Great showers houses, propane filling station, laundry on site and lots of tails to hike or ride ATV’s but my favorite part is the farm animals and the host. They are super sweet.

      Andersonville City Campground

      Just okay

The previous reviews are outdated and so is the campground. It is so important to review every stay so we are all up to date. Bathrooms were small and dirty. Only one bathroom/shower combo for women and one for men. If someone is using the bathroom, you need to wait. This place is okay in a pinch, but that’s it.

      Florence Marina State Park Campground

      Small but nice

Site 22 full hookup. Small campground with nothing around in terms of town or business. Bathhouses were very well kept. Laundry was $1! Went to Providence Canyon SP. Very interesting hikes and sites. Watch those log trucks they move!

      Great Faciliites

A little hard to find but the facilities are very clean and the spots are well laid out. The pool is part of a water park which is only open seasonally, so check the dates if you are wanting to take a dip

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

      Great Getaway

I have been to FDR 3 times in the last 3 years and I hope to come more frequently. I came here multiple times over 50 years ago and I find it as enjoyable now as I did then. The check in is always easy. It is quiet there and there is so much to do. The trails are great for hiking. The facilities are always clean.
Georgia state parks are always nice but this is my favorite.

    Guide to Louvale

Camping sites near Louvale, Georgia provide primitive to full-hookup options across Georgia-Alabama state lines. The area sits at elevations between 300-500 feet with clay soil that tends to remain damp year-round. Campers should note the area straddles the Eastern and Central time zones, with Georgia observing Eastern time while Alabama campgrounds operate on Central time.

    What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: At Rood Creek Park Camping, visitors regularly spot alligators in the adjacent water bodies. As one camper noted, "We did see a small gator in the creek. Woke up to fog on the water. It was beautiful!" Another camper mentioned seeing "plenty of deer" throughout the camping areas.

Boat rentals for lake exploration: For water recreation, Florence Marina State Park Campground offers affordable boat rentals. "We rented a boat my husband fished and we drove around the lake. You can have a AL. or GA fishing license here the lake runs through both states. Lots of blooming Lilly's, big oaks with moss, shorebirds and gators," shares one visitor.

Historical sites exploration: The area contains several historical attractions accessible from camping locations. At Franklin D Roosevelt State Park, a visitor mentioned, "The visitor center has a real cool shop and the staff are always friendly and helpful." Another camper at Florence Marina noted, "There's an old church there and some real old graves" near Providence Canyon.

    What campers like

Free camping options: Rood Creek Park Camping stands out for its zero-cost camping. "FREE and stunningly perfect," reports one camper. "Absolutely love this place. Super easy to find, you just go down a red clay road. There's plenty of sites up close to the pond, fire pits everywhere, picnic tables, clean garbages."

Laundry facilities: Several campgrounds offer laundry services, which extended-stay campers appreciate. At COE Walter F George Lake Bluff Creek Campground, one visitor highlighted "large clean showers and bathrooms, laundry only 1.00 per machine, fish cleaning stations" as standout amenities.

Privacy between sites: Campground layout varies significantly throughout the region. One camper at Lakepoint Resort State Park observed, "This campground is spacious and sites have good spacing. At least in our section." Another noted about Bluff Creek, "It was a typical site that would accommodate any size rig in my opinion. The site included water, 50/30/20 amp electricity, table, grill and fire pit."

    What you should know

Time zone changes: The area straddles two time zones. A camper at Bluff Creek mentioned, "The states are separated by the Chattahoochee River and also the boundary of the Eastern and Central time zones. This can cause confusion if your mobile phone is set to automatically detect time zone changes."

Paper mill proximity: Some campgrounds are affected by nearby industry. A camper at COE Walter F George Lake Bluff Creek Campground reported, "The only negative comment is related to the nearby paper mill located across the river near by the campground. This is of course a needed and appreciated industry to the local area. However, there is a noticeable noise and smell generated by the facility."

Water levels and access: Water conditions vary by season. At Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina, a visitor observed, "There's a boat launch site on the Chattahoochee river." Many campsites are near water but access varies. "Some sites do not support parking or launching boats due to the height of the river banks above the water's edge," noted another camper.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Lakepoint Resort State Park Campground, one family observed, "Safe for kids to ride around on bikes for hours. Site are big and the one we were at backed up on woods. Great view of the lake and sunset."

Swimming options: Swimming availability differs by location. At Uchee Creek Army Campground, a camper noted, "Their pool and splash pad is nicer than most hotels." However, at Rood Creek, a visitor warned, "No swimming, alligators."

Wildlife education opportunities: The diverse ecosystem provides learning experiences. One visitor to Florence Marina mentioned, "We walked to the lake there were so many dragonflies it was cool. The birds were swooping up the dragonflies it was interesting to watch." Another added, "You can kayak or rent a little boat it was cheap."

    Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: RVers should prepare for varied terrain. At Camp David RV Resort, a camper observed, "Large gravel on road and sites making leveling difficult. Sites are fairly close together but better than some."

Full hookup availability: Florence Marina State Park offers complete services for RVs. "Full hook-ups was a nice surprise. Sites are spacious, campground was full and it didn't feel crowded," reported one RVer. Another noted, "Sites are well laid out but wide open to every one else. Not many that are very private."

Cell service considerations: Connectivity varies widely across the region. At Florence Marina, a camper shared, "Cell service can be challenging, T-mobile was only Edge service (remember that?) was able to stream video for my kids on AT&T and Verizon. My site was totally wooded and that could have contributed to the difficulty in cell service."
