Campers consistently appreciated the large, level sites with excellent spacing and shade. Many visitors reported exceptionally clean facilities and helpful, attentive staff. The lakefront location offers good swimming and no-wake boating opportunities.

F. D. Roosevelt camping.

Our stay at F.D. Roosevelt Campground was a mix of beautiful nature and frustrating logistics.

📅 Reservation Issues One of the biggest challenges we experienced was trying to secure a campsite on short notice. The reservation system felt rigid — same-day bookings weren’t available online, which made planning last-minute trips difficult and stressful. The online reads like same day walk ups are non existent.

🚿 Cleanliness of Facilities The bathrooms and showers generally stayed clean and maintained.

💰 Pricing for Tent Camping For tent camping, the nightly rate felt on the high side compared to what you’d expect — particularly if you’re just pitching a basic tent without hookups or extra amenities. We paid $43 per night here for a simple tent stay. It felt a bit steep for what you get unless you’re taking full advantage of the trails, lakes, or historical sites.

🌲 Overall Vibe While the setting is beautiful and there’s plenty to do around the park — from hiking trails to nearby historic spots — the combination of reservation headaches and cost for basic camping made our experience a bit of a mixed bag.

Family friendly and extremely clean

We spent one night here to check it out, but we will definitely be going back! We stayed in spot #14, which is not right on the water but across the street. When we got there Friday afternoon we had a great view of the lake, but after 5:00 the place filled up quickly. If you want an unobstructed view of the lake you should rent a lakeside spot. But we had plenty of trees to string the hammock on, whereas the lakeside spots have fewer trees. All lots seemed pretty well shaded (a BIG plus here in Georgia in the Summer) and there are trails to walk that are shaded.

The person at check-in was extremely friendly and helpful, and the resident manager came by a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed. They had the cleanest bathhouse I have ever seen (see pix) and a resident who had been there a while said they clean the bathrooms several times a day. This campground is very clean and well maintained. Definitely a 5 star experience.

Excellent port in the storm

Made a stopover here to cut a long drive in half. We’d never heard about these GA Power campgrounds so we weren’t sure what to expect. Arrived during a driving rainstorm and under a tornado warning. Fortunately our site (40) was perfectly level so we were able to setup in no time and get out of the bad weather. Very nice, large gravel sites, well spaced, with a concrete picnic table and a fire ring. We didn’t use any of the amenities, but the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and as far as we could see the campground was pristine. We will definitely return.

Great campground and lake area

Loved the area. We had lake front site #6. Had our kayak and small fishing boat at site shore. Our golden retrievers loved being at the water. Sites are very large with good space between them. Most are shaded, level, gravel with picnic tables, large fire ring, lots of space for chairs. Had plenty of space for our grill as well. This Harding Lake runs into/part of Chattahoochee River. No wake zone around the campground area so it was perfect for kayaking and small boat fishing. Nice bathroom facility and laundry area too. Very clean. Bob was a great camp host and was informative about the park. Will have to try in the fall with leaf change. Still ok for 90 plus temps. 🥵 Slight breeze off lake. Highly recommend this Georgia Power campground!
