Tent campgrounds surrounding Lilburn, Georgia include a mix of developed sites and primitive backcountry camping areas within a 30-mile radius, ranging from drive-in tent campsites with electrical hookups to hike-in backcountry spots. Panola Mountain State Park Campground offers established tent sites with electrical hookups and picnic tables in a conservation-focused setting. Hembree Park Campground provides basic tent camping with drinking water and toilets. Several smaller tent-specific camping areas like Hideaway Park and Sacred Space Urban Retreat cater exclusively to tent campers seeking alternatives to larger, more developed campgrounds.

Most tent sites in the Lilburn area have limited amenities, with varying access options including drive-in, walk-in, and hike-in availability. Campgrounds like James Shackleford Memorial Park offer drinking water, picnic tables, and toilets, while sites such as Buford Dam Park Shelters are accessible by boat or on foot only. Fires are permitted at many locations including Panola Mountain and Hideaway Park, though firewood availability varies by site. A review on The Dyrt noted that Panola Mountain's sites require a 3/4-mile walk in, making them suitable for those who prefer some distance from parking areas. Vault toilets are common at established sites, but shower facilities are rare in the region's tent camping areas.

Tent campers in the Lilburn area often experience varying levels of seclusion depending on the chosen location. The primitive tent sites at Panola Mountain State Park provide peaceful settings with good opportunities for wildlife observation, particularly at night. As one visitor described, "Very peaceful and even had the sounds of a vibrant coyote pack." Many tent-only areas offer moderate tree cover, though open spaces like those around Panola Mountain's pond provide limited shade. Weekday visits typically result in lower occupancy at most tent campgrounds. The backcountry tent camping experience at locations like Serenity Ridge offers more isolation, with the site accessible only by hiking trail, providing tent campers with genuine wilderness immersion despite proximity to metropolitan Atlanta.

      Indian Springs State Park Campground

This was our first trip here and it was beautiful! We loved biking all over the park. We loved sitting by the falls. Would’ve loved to go in the museum, but it wasn’t open when we were there (very limited days/hours).

-Camp hosts were absolutely wonderful! They were a pleasure to talk with. The friendliest group ever!!

      -Bath house was extremely clean.

-We stayed in the newer section.

-Definitely make your way to the Stone Pavilion and sample the natural artesian spring water. It’s not something I’d want a lot, but when in Rome…🤣

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

Welcome center is nice, but the roads and asphalt sites are crumbling. We had a back in site that was fairly level. No real privacy from neighboring sites.

      High Falls State Park Campground

Pleasant...but was crowded. The loop we stayed in was filled with a family reunion . But for the most part. Very friendly and wasn't loud. The park is convenient to I-75 (9miles).

Very family friendly. Lots of free range children (weekend). The staff was very friendly. The bath house was clean and well maintained. Had a front loader washer and dryer x1. $2 apiece. Lots of trails. Three night stay. The cell phone service was the biggest downfall since we rely on a Verizon hot spot. At&t was a no data available. Verizon had two bars where we were at.

      Bald Ridge Creek

Not ideal for the primitive camper …

Way too many rules to have to abide by. It’s not a day use area, so you HAVE to camp over night or else they threaten to ban you from all FoCo campsites. Normally not a big deal, but there was supposed to be rain during our visit and that had me paranoid. We camped out, the rain held off, it was nice. Then day 2, I wasn’t feeling it anymore, but I didn’t want to be banned from camping 🙄 so we stayed the night and packed up at 5:45am the next day. No coffee or chilling. I just wanted to get out of there! I love camping out in the wilderness…no rules, no stress, no people, no RVs. Just nature.

      Victoria Campground

may be surrounded by others, but all respectful and peaceful!

Honestly it was so super easy. Just reserve a spot in the recreation.gov app, pull to the entrance camp host gate, get your paper pass after checking in, and you’re good to go! Need to book longer? Go in the app and if your site is available just make a new booking and tell the camp hosts!

      War Hill Park

      Reservation Page Worthless

The webpage is hokey 1990s vintage, can’t handle multi-day reservations. I gave up out of frustration.

      Jones Creek Campground

      Rugged and Remote

Great campsites right along the creek, deep in the forests. The road to get there was rather long and very rugged so a full tank of gas and AWD necessary. There are bigger campsites consolidated together by the creek with a few smaller sites along the road before and after.

      Amicalola Falls State Park Camping

Site 18: Don’t let the “hardest site to back into” reviews scare you! There’s a trick.

We stayed at Site 18, which has a reputation for being one of the hardest sites to back into. There’s definitely a trick to it! Pull your truck forward along the site, then pull out toward the site across from you, making an S-turn. From there, line it up and back in. It's tricky, but doable!

We loved this area and packed a lot into our stay. We visited BJ’s Apple Orchard, stopped at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (where I somehow ended up with a 150-pound pumpkin 😂), had dinner at Cascades Restaurant, and took the easy way to see the falls.

The fenced-in sites were a huge plus, especially with our pups. It gave them more room to roam. The bathrooms and showers are individual rooms, which was nice, and the welcome center is one of the nicest we’ve come across.

And then there’s THE HILL. I was born and raised in the Smokies, so I’m no stranger to mountain roads, but the incline is no joke! The reviews are absolutely not exaggerating when they say it’s steep. Come prepared!

I have T-mobile and husband has Xfinity and we both have great service. Wifi in the campground gets the job done for Netflix at night.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful area, plenty to explore, dog-friendly sites, and a campground we’d visit again. 🏕️🥾
