Raysville Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Swimming, fishing, and waterfront camping draw visitors to Raysville Campground on Clarks Hill Lake, where the Army Corps of Engineers operates a small but well-maintained facility near Thomson, Georgia. Most sites sit directly on the water, and several reviewers note that lake access is available right from camp for swimming and cooling off. The campground runs from March 1 through October 30, with electric and water hookups at sites accommodating RVs up to 45 feet. Navigation tip: Google Maps routes more reliably to the entrance than Apple Maps, which has sent at least one visitor eight miles off course.

Sites here run large and clean, with enough room for tents, hammocks, and a fire ring setup without feeling cramped. The campground has a small number of sites total, which keeps the atmosphere from getting crowded. Firewood is available for purchase on-site, and the bathhouse includes showers. One thing to note: there is no dedicated swimming area for children, so families planning water play will be working from the shoreline rather than a marked beach.

"This campground is much quieter and more secluded than the others in the area," notes Josh R., a consistent sentiment across multiple visits. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead for waterfront sites. Pets are welcome. Campers who want more options along the lake can explore campsites near J. Strom Thurmond Recreation Area, or consider Big Hart Campground - J Strom Thurmond Lake for a larger facility with a designated swim beach.

Relaxing, well kept campground

We absolutely loved this campsite(#45) it was our first time there. We did a last minute trip from Orlando, Fl and it was great. We showed up late Friday, 30 min before closing. They had a sign on the window with the number to inform the tenant and the option to purchase firewood. We only got one afternoon but the view was worth it! Sunset at this site was amazing. We had a couple hammocks up, our tent and had a fire going both days. The campgrounds are clean, and well maintained. We had lake access at our site which was nice for cooling off or swimming. Next time we come, we will make to bring a fishing pole and some tubes to float in the water. Weather was awesome, 75-78 during the day, 63-68 at night. Use google to find the campground, Apple led us 8 miles into a different campground. Overall this camp ground is great.

Great Quiet Campground

We camped here just as the COVID shutdowns were beginning back March. There were only a few campers. We were right on the water. Large clean sites. Great campground. It was a cool early spring evening. We had a nice campfire and enjoyed a nice time.

Great little place

Not many sites but what they have are nice. Bath houses are ok and staff is laid back.

Very quiet

Raysville is a hidden gem at Clarks Hill Lake.  this campground is much quieter and more secluded than the others in the area.  they still offer decent bath houses with showers.  the only negative in my mind is the lack of a swimming area for kids.
