South Skyway Rest Stop

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, kayaking, and swimming draw campers to this free overnight parking stop along the Gulf Coast, where vehicles pull directly up to the water's edge near the southern exit of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The site sits in Terra Ceia, Florida, managed as a state park stop, and gives anglers direct access to saltwater fishing without a long walk to the shoreline. Paddlers can launch kayaks from the same area. Temperatures run from the high 70s into the 90s during warmer months, so come prepared for heat.

The atmosphere here is not a quiet one. Road noise from the Skyway carries across the site consistently, and reviewers note that fellow campers frequently run generators and play music. "Not a quiet place, lots of road noise," writes Doreen G., who also observed a good vantage point for watching the sunset over the Gulf. The area is open and exposed, with sea breezes providing some relief from the heat.

Campers should be aware of a significant and recent concern: multiple reviewers report that overnight stays are no longer permitted, with law enforcement actively enforcing the restriction and potential fines up to $300. The campground data lists it as free with RV access, but at least one camper was turned away by a sheriff after arriving with a trailer. Conditions and enforcement appear to be changing, so confirming current rules before arrival is strongly advised. Those looking for established alternatives in the region can find campgrounds near Terra Ceia or consider nearby options such as Fisherman's Cove RV Resort or The Tides RV Resort for a more reliable overnight setup.

Not overnight

Beautiful place—I live close by. You can’t stay overnight anymore; the police will kick you out. I heard you can get fined up to $300.

Fish and sleep by the water

Several others fished and some just parked with generators and music. Not a quiet place, lots of road noise. Was not bothered by any one. Great spot to watch the sunset over the Gulf of America.

Do not bring your RV or trailer here

This was our first time using the dyrt app with our new trailer. Unfortunately, this site needs to be updated as they do not allow RVs or trailers and we were informed of this by a sheriff after setting up
