Four miles south of Nederland along Colorado Highway 119, Kelly Dahl Campground sits at 8,600 feet elevation in Roosevelt National Forest. The 46-site campground operates from mid-May through late September, with sites 1-20 available first-come, first-served and sites 21-46 accepting reservations through Recreation.gov.
Mountain pine beetle damage has opened much of the canopy, leaving many sites exposed to sun and wind. Keith S. notes that "most sites are exposed due to fire wiping out the trees but there are some sites that were spared and much preferable to those with no cover." Camp hosts maintain vault toilets three times daily and provide trash service throughout the season. Bear boxes protect food at tent sites, while picnic tables and fire rings with grills equip each spot.
The campground accommodates RVs up to 45 feet, though several reviewers mention leveling challenges on certain sites. Grant B. recommends "sites 022, 024, 025, 026, 027, 031, 032, 035" for RV camping, noting that "several camp sites look to be so far out of level that they are unusable for RV camping." Cell service from AT&T and Verizon works sporadically. Firewood sells through the camp host, and drinking water stations serve the campground.
Access requires caution on the entrance road, particularly after storms when sites may flood. The nearby West Magnolia Campground provides an alternative 1.4 miles northwest. Nederland offers dining and supplies ten minutes away, while historic mining towns and mountain trails provide day trip opportunities from this forest service base camp.
