Beautiful Campground in Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Great hikes nearby! You CAN take your dog on hikes with you and there are ponds & streams as well..

Great hiking nearby, just 5 miles from Casinos

Nice campground with many choices & great hiking nearby! Along the Peak to Peak Highway (119). There are 2 drawbacks - very close to the highway, and not on any water - creek, etc. Other than that it's a very nice Nat'l Forest Campground. Great for a stayover a few nights! Approx. 20 miles North of I-70.

Nice location & on the river...but...

Mosquitos were so bad, we had to leave…Otherwise, in a time where they weren't EVERYWHERE, we'd probably stay!

One of the best!

We pitched our tent right near the creek. Beautiful spot with some seclusion. We only stayed one night but it was awesome.  Would definitely come back. Sad I don't have any photos, but it was beautiful & peaceful!

Beautiful & private spaces!

We stayed at the "McHenry" campground in a spot right next to a creek. The traffic noise was a bit prevalent during the day because it's close to the highway. Great tent pad. We only stayed one night as we were passing through but would definitely stay again!

Nicely wooded - recreation nearby - don't leave anything out for raccoons!

Nice campground with swimming/water/hiking recreation. We happened to go on a bad fire year so didn't have great views, but it was still fun. Raccoons visit in large numbers at night so make sure you don't leave ANYTHING out that they could get into. It's a bit crowded for our tastes - sites are fairly close to each other.

Views are amazing. Facilities good. It's crowded in summer...reserve.

Rocky Mountain National Park is just spectacular. Elk, moose, bighorn sheep, eagles, fox, coyotes, black bears, and other wildlife abound. I was a Ranger one summer in Rocky - please respect the wildlife and keep a very long distance to not affect their behavior. Drive slow - there are accidents resulting in death of wildlife every year. That being said, about this campsite in particular - it is my favorite in the Park. I stayed there twice when not yet a Ranger…gorgeous views - meadow, mountains, etc. Lots of people in summer and just be prepared for that. The hikes and views and wildlife you will experience make this so worthwhile. The sites are good, of course they are not huge. If you backpack I would probably recommend getting a back-country license. But car camping is excellent here!! Dogs are allowed camping - we stayed when we weren't going on hikes. National Parks do not allow dogs on trails - they are only allowed in parking lots & campgrounds to protect the wildlife and dogs. Of course, there is a massive amount of National Forest surrounding the area that you could take dogs on trails. Our dogs loved this site.

Incredibly beautiful right near the lake.

The most beautiful & colorful water rocks I've ever seen. Camp spots are kind of close but you don't really see your neighbors too much. Wonderful Ranger Talk in the amphitheatre. We had to leave early due to fires (summer of 2018). Cannot wait to return. Great restaurant & gift shop!!

On the river - some very separated comp spots.

We spent one hellaciously windy night here. I'm sure it's great when it's not windy. Nice views, nice moon-rise in the evening. All was great until around sunset when the winds kicked up. Tough with a tent. But, that's the way it is in the West. enjoyed walking near the river with the dog though. Otherwise peaceful evening.

Lovely - especially on the River

We spent a glorious 2 nights at one of the Western-most camping spots right with a private path to the river & a nice little swimming hole area. Our dog was in heaven! We enjoyed time on the beach and at the site. Be aware there are lots of ants around in the summer though! GREAT hikes from nearby trails. Don't miss the museum either!

Great Campground for stopover between UT/CO and NV/CA

We only camped one night (a few years ago). There aren't really any trees, and the only reason for 4 stars. BUT, relaxing and adequately spaced & right near the Virgin River.

Nice spacing, on the lake, trails, just beautiful!

It's been a while, but we cannot wait to go back - we only got to camp one night so hoping for several this time! Just gorgeous area!!

Nice campground near Nederland

We have camped here twice. Both before the pine beetle-killed trees were felled by Forest Service. However, it is great if you want to be up in the mountains with proximity to Nederland and Black Hawk as well as phenomenal hiking in the National Forests and easy day trips to Boulder, Estes Park, Georgetown, etc.

Beautiful, Peaceful, Away.....

It's been a few years, but we camped at the very Western-most camping spot & enjoyed it greatly - very close to creek & quiet. I would not have wanted one of the other camping spots. They are a bit close for our tastes. Wish we could have spent more time than one night. We plan on going back!

Space and Views!!

We camped here for 4 nights in August 2020. It was so peaceful. Big wide dispersed camping spaces. Plenty of nice hiking - especially Brown's Creek area. Great location with easy drive to Buena Vista & Salida & Mt. Princeton. The only drawback was, well, August dryness & no water nearby. This was our first dispersed camping experience and we realize no facilities. There is one bathroom near the Brown's Creek trailhead about 2 miles away from where we camped, but we had a camper. Also, no picnic tables at all. AND cows roam freely throughout the area - drive slowly & respect them - listen for moos & coyote howls. Great bird-watching too. We enjoyed it so much!!
