Gunnison National Forest's Pitkin Campground sits roughly a mile east of the small town of Pitkin, Colorado, where a general store carries snacks, ice cream, and basic supplies. The campground is managed by the US Forest Service and runs from mid-May through mid-September, with fees ranging from $0 to $24 per night collected directly by a host who makes rounds rather than using a drop box. Amenities include drinking water, toilets, a dump station, firewood, and trash service. No pets are allowed. Gunnison National Forest Quartz Campground is a nearby alternative worth considering, located about 2.6 miles to the northeast.
