1st camping trip in 7 years

Great camping spot just south of Colorado Springs. The views were amazing of all the tall, gorgeous aspen trees and we were right by the creek which at night was so very peaceful to fall asleep too. Me and my fiance stayed with 3 others and they're also dog friendly which was a plus for my best friend. We camped out in our tents at site #1 which honestly had the best views/privacy and if you don't mind a little hiking, walk past site #22 if you want to see the waterfall which ended up being a pretty good hike up there but nothing too challenging. My friend crossed the creek like a champ with her toddler, so it's definitely worth the hike! Bear 🐻 country here too (come prepared) we luckily didn't cross paths with any.

Wish there was a map.

We probably had the worst walk-in site, distance wise. A long walk with all of our stuff. We'll chose a different one next time. All-in-all, it's a great clean CG with an attentive host. Lots of sites, pretty close together, too. It was a full house on Saturday night. Quite quiet on Sunday and Monday nights. Great Creek flowing through and a fantastic waterfall hike is nearby. Add to that, your rental includes access to the nearby reservoir. Bishop Castle is just around the corner. Wouldn't hesitate to book this place again. PLEASE PUBLISH a map of the CG!!

A very clean, quiet, and beautiful camping area.

Sept. 8-10, 2021 stay: Such a nice campground! Many sites are right along the creek and it was really flowing and creating some nice "white noise". It's the cleanest campsite we have ever stayed in, and in such a beautiful canyon to boot. Other than just getting away and relaxing, my wife and I took the 1-mile trail south to a really nice waterfall. Why they don't have a sign for directions to it, I don't know!  The trail is pretty well worn and you have to cross the creek in three places, walking over stacked logs - some pretty precarious "bridges". We only encountered a few animals - rock squirrels and birds. There were many flowers still in bloom, but waning with fall coming soon. The only downside to hiking was watching out for poison ivy, and there was plenty of it all along the creek and on the hiking trail. We would recommend it to anyone - but save us a site because we will be going back.

Site#12, chosen due to sun exposure for solar panels and close to creek

Nice site by river

Nice little campground close to Bishop’s Castle and not too far from the Metro area. Water available. Maybe firewood if the private site at the entrance is open (seems random whether it is.)

Close to Bishop Castle

I was wondering around the winding roads toward Bishop Castle without cell service and found this spot. It was pretty well removed from everything and the trees were standing tall and made for a great welcome to Colorado.

The sites were $21 and included the basics, a picnic table and fire ring. The sites were green and filled with fluffy grass which made for a great campsite foundation or you could set up in the area which had no grass if you chose. I was really impressed by the color of the grass considering it was so late in the year.

This place probably stays pretty busy during the peak season but when I was there it was kind of quiet only a couple of campers.

There are vault toilets and a few pump water outlets scattered throughout so nothing to special there, but you aren't paying for the amenities here you are paying for the atmosphere and that was priceless.

If you have ever wondered what Colorado is supposed to be like check out this campsite during the non-peak season.

I was able to set up my base camp and explore. I was only moments from Bishop Castle and from several hiking trails which kept me completely happy.

TIPS:

  • Get gas before you come out this way otherwise you might start to get a little nervous as the needle falls.

  • If you like birds this is a birding paradise I saw so many different birds that were so unique looking.
