Mountain Lake Peace and Charm

First time to Dowdy Lake and I've fallen in love with this campground. It's so peaceful here. The lake is beautiful. The sound of birds and the wind going through the trees is so calming.

Some technical notes. There is no dump station and I noted on the water hydrants that filling RV potable…

CO river access, nearby access to RMNP, zoo, & access to nearby lakes

This is a beautiful campground with lots of family-friendly activities to do.  They have direct access to the headwaters of the Colorado River.  We visited a little late in the season (August) to catch many fish, but we still had fun.  We found some tailwaters below the big lakes and caught some…

Quaint Quiet Camp Ground

This camp ground seems so underrated. While it doesn’t boast views of the mountains as much as other places, it’s a great quiet place to get some lake time!

Sites are very easy to pull into/out of. We had electric hook ups. Camp sites are not super level, but there is plenty of space.

The lake…

Close to All RMNP Has to Offer

Loved being in the park and having easy access to all the park has to offer. Especially with the new timed entry requirements. However, Loop C in which we stayed was very tight between sites and the old growth pines have been removed and replaced with younger/shorter trees. Still enjoyed some elk…

Spacious and serene

Acres large campsite that opens to a boulder studded meadow. A little tight backing through the trees but doable. The roadway runs by so there is some traffic noise. Otherwise nearly perfect. No water. Here mud June and there are open spots FF. No one stays all that long with no water at hand.

Very close to the trails and easy access to park entrance and exit

Loved this campground. Was there in September and the Elk were in their rutting season. Campsite was plenty big enough with a nice tent pad. Very enjoyable spot, close access to trails and entrance and exit of the park.

Peaceful oasis

We stayed for two nights. We love that this campground is quiet, spaced out and fairly small. It’s perfect for our young family.

Great for exploring Wild Basin

No water currently, sites are $17.25 a night. Nice spot in Ponderosa pine forest, about 10 minutes from the Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park. Sites seemed mostly spread out for some room between neighbors. Camp hosts were friendly and attentive. Pit toilets were clean, though I could…

Short Distance from Metro Area - Amazing Views and Water!

This is only about 90 mins from the front range and it’s amazing!

The views from most of the sites are phenomenal! And most sites have lake front views.

The beach is surprisingly not over crowded despite it being a full campsite.

The camp sites where a bit tight and open but that’s probably…

Beautiful, busy, bears

Have stayed here many times in all seasons except deep winter. Gorgeous special place. Super busy in the summer, reserve ahead! September is magical - hear the elk bugling from your tent! Use the bear boxes, they know how to break into cars here.

Ranger Lakes

Great little RV park in State Forest State Park. Small pond nearby and beautiful hiking around the campground. Take lots of bug spray, the mosquitoes are everywhere

Gates not open as of memorial weekend

Drove a long ways to find out the gate isn’t open like prior post of members and will not open until June 15 on the steamboat side as posted at gate. We drove to the east side from Walden to find out you can’t even make it to the gate as the road has way too much snow cover yet even with a 4 wheel…

  • dispersed camp
  • this is the start of the snow almost 2 miles from the East gate. 3-5 ft deep beyond this
  • east side to Buffalo pass
Sitewe found a spot on the east entrance going up to Buffalo pass . plenty of dispersed spots with great views
