Chill “closed” campground

Has fire rings and picnic tables. Closed for good, apparently because of bears, but far down the road so it’s very unlikely you’ll be bothered

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Gold Camp Road near Wye Campground and can you camp there?

Gold Camp Road is in the vicinity of Wye Campground, but unfortunately, you cannot currently camp at Wye Campground itself. The campground has been permanently closed and is gated off. While Gold Camp Road provides access to several recreational areas in the Pike National Forest, Wye Campground is no longer an option for overnight stays. If you're looking to camp along Gold Camp Road, you'll need to investigate other nearby campgrounds in the Pike National Forest that remain open. Always check with the U.S. Forest Service for the most current information about camping options in the area.

Where is Wye Campground located and how do I get there?

Wye Campground is located in the Pike National Forest in Colorado. However, it's important to know that this campground is permanently closed and is currently inaccessible to the public with a locked gate preventing entry. The campground was accessible via forest roads in the Pike National Forest system. For current camping options in the Pike National Forest area, check the U.S. Forest Service website or contact the ranger district directly for recommendations on alternative campgrounds that remain open.

What amenities and facilities are available at Wye Campground?

Wye Campground is permanently closed and no longer offers camping facilities. When it was operational, the campground featured basic amenities including fire rings and picnic tables at each site. It was known for its secluded setting, offering a more primitive camping experience. The closure was reportedly due to bear activity in the area. Since the campground is no longer in service, these facilities are not maintained or available for public use. Campers should explore other active campgrounds in the Pike National Forest for current camping opportunities.
