Turkey Roost Group Camp — Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Situated just south of Colorado Springs and considered one of the "crown jewels" in Colorado's extensive state park system, Cheyenne Mountain State Park represents the protection of one of the last significant open spaces along the southern section of the Colorado Front Range.

The 2701 acres of the park lie beneath the eastern flank of Cheyenne Mountain, and border the plains of Colorado in a stunning transition from plains to peaks. The land is in remarkable natural condition and diverse wildlife viewing opportunities abound due to the property's relatively undisturbed and unfragmented nature.

Cheyenne Mountain offers superior facilities and recreational opportunities. Foremost among the park's offerings is the trail system consisting of 28 miles of hiking and biking trails. These pathways allow visitors ample opportunities to explore the park's natural beauty and discover the park's many wild inhabitants. Due to the park's diverse wildlife and fragile eco-systems, dogs are only permitted on certain trails. Leashed pets are welcomed in the park's developed areas, which include the campgrounds and picnic areas.

Along with great trails, the park offers superior facilities, boasting a Visitor Center with gift shop and interpretive displays, individual and group picnicking facilities, wildlife viewing, and 61 spectacular campsites. Every site includes a paved parking area, grill ring/fire pit, 10'x10' tent pad, picnic table, and amazing views of Colorado Springs below with the majestic Cheyenne Mountain above.

The majority of the campsites (51 total) are full service and include water, electrical, and sewer hook-ups for RV campers. Tent campers are always welcome in these "RV" sites, but there are also 10 unique walk-in sites. These sites, nestled among scrub oak, are for tents only. Campers must take a short walk into the secluded sites from the parking lot, but they are well worth the effort!

Campers will find flush toilet facilities, coin-operated showers, a coin-operated laundry room, change machine and an activity room featuring historical displays at the camper services building. Playgrounds, additional restroom facilities, a beautiful amphitheater and easy trail access are also available from the campgrounds.

• By making a reservation with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, you are agreeing to read and abide by all rules stated in this purchase flow and on the confirmation letter.

• A valid Colorado State Park pass is always required on every vehicle that enters the park. This is in addition to the camping fees.

• Due to wildfire risks, smoking is not allowed on the trails. Leashed pets are always welcomed in the developed areas of the park, which include the campgrounds and picnic areas. Dogs are allowed on DESIGNATED trails around the campgrounds only. Equestrian use is allowed on approximately 8.5 miles of trail which can only be accessed at the Limekiln trailhead. Horses are not allowed in campgrounds or near buildings. No backcountry camping is allowed.

• A maximum of six people and only one camping unit is allowed per site. This may include one motor home or one camper and one additional tent. One additional passenger vehicle is allowed per site only if it fits on the driveway. All vehicles must remain on the pavement at all times. Pay close attention to the recommendations about maximum camping unit length when you make your reservation. Make sure there will be room for your unit and an additional vehicle if needed. Parking for additional vehicles is limited.

• Every site has a 12'x12' tent pad. An additional tent is allowed if it fits on the developed portion of the camp site. It is not permissible to set up tents on any park vegetation.

• The campground has 10 walk-in tent sites. These unique, non-electric sites require campers to hike in and carry camping equipment several hundred feet to get to the sites. There is really only enough room for one large tent. A smaller tent may fit, but it must remain on the developed site and never set up on vegetation. Parking for the walk-in sites is limited to one space that can accommodate a single passenger vehicle or SUV, parking is not at the site and you must walk to your campsite. Bathrooms located nearest the tent sites are open and a short walk to the facilities. RV's or trailers will not fit. Additional parking is very limited.

• Every campsite has a fire grill/pit and associated emergency water hydrant. The hose boxes throughout the campground are for emergency use only. Each full-service campsite has an additional water hydrant for visitor use.

• Tree cutting or wood gathering is strictly prohibited. Firewood is for sale during business hours at the Visitor Center or by Camp hosts, you are also welcome to bring your own.

• The Camper Services Building has restrooms, showers, coin operated laundry, a playground, and family friendly programs are often scheduled there during the summer months. Restrooms with showers can also be found in the Meadows Campground.

Per CPW regulation, no individual may camp or park a motor vehicle, trailer or camper on a state park for more than fourteen (14) days in any twenty-eight (28) day period on a single park. For the purposes of this regulation, an individual is defined as any person who has occupied a site, whether or not they are formally listed on the reservation as the reserving party or primary occupant.

Any reservations made with one or more days outside of the 6-month reservation window will be frozen to changes for 14 days from the date the reservation was made.
