Wide open space, great location for Sand Dunes and stargazing
The site is located in the wide open space between the Sangre de Cristo Mtns and the San Juans. The view of both ranges is spectacular, along with the view of the Sand Dunes. However, the lake was non-existent when we were there. This was a stopover for us, and it served us well. The campground has electricity, but no water. For seniors, the fee was minimal, requiring just a pass for State Wildlife Areas. It would be a good spot if you wanted to visit the Sand Dunes, but would be hot in the summer. There are sheltered picnic tables for every campsite, and fire rings. Stargazing is amazing!
Stayed from July 10-12
It’s a drive back there but it’s pretty worth it. Your right by spring creek reservoir and all that nature has to offer. The host was also friendly as well
