## Overview

Loon Lake Campground is situated on the south shores of Loon Lake, and attracts many visitors with its variety of campsites and beautiful waterfront setting. Popular activities include boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and exploring off-road vehicle trails.

## Recreation

Anglers delight in fishing for rainbow and brown trout, while boaters head out for water skiing. Five picnic areas in the campground and a day-use area provide visitors with nice lake views.

## Facilities

Campsites come with picnic tables, grills, campfire rings and bear-proof food storage lockers. Firewood is sold on-site.

## Natural Features

The campground sits just west of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of 6,500 feet. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean with warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters.

Collins Lake is a favorite Northern California destination for families. This 1,600 acre recreation area offers LAKEFRONT RV& TENT camping with excellent fishing and wakeboarding. Collins Lake has California’s largest private trophy trout planting program of any lake north of Sacramento and equally famous for bass, crappie& catfish. Facilities include RV hookups, cabins, hot showers, laundry, marina, rental boats, sandy beach, playground, store with huge ice creams& espresso drinks. Family friendly with movies under the stars and live music every summer summer. Located only 70 miles northeast of Sacramento at 1200’ elevation. Family owned and operated since 1972.

Collins Lake Recreation Area

Benson Hut is located just below the north face of Anderson Peak, 5.5 miles beyond the PCT trailhead on Donner Pass Road. Expect approximately 1,800′ of elevation gain. Prior experience in the backcountry is required for this trip as the route is long and treacherous, especially in bad weather. Expect bare ground and/or ice where wind has stripped snow from the ridge; beware of cornices on the east side. The hut is very difficult to reach but once in the vicinity, relatively easy to spot. Overnight parking may be arranged with Clair Tappaan Lodge or Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. Topo map: Norden 7-1/2′ quad.

The hut is nestled under the north face of Anderson Peak at 8,350′ and has extraordinary views to the east, north, and west. Use extra caution as surrounding slopes are steep, avalanches are frequent, and weather (when it worsens) can be very dangerous.

The Placerville KOA Campground is located in the foothills between the Sacramento Valley and the gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountains of Lake Tahoe.

It's a terrific launching pad for trips to California's Gold Country, the American River, Apple Hill, Old Town Sacramento, and Red Hawk Casino. Visit the area's wineries or plentiful apple orchards with handmade crafts, pies, and pastries. Relax in the refreshing pool (in-season) and hot tub, or take the free on-call shuttle to Red Hawk Casino for a delicious buffet.

On Sunday mornings in the summer, this KOA serves a fabulous breakfast. Join in on movie nights with free popcorn and other goodies in support of KOA Care Camps (most Fri/Sat). Camp Lotus Lodge & Campground lies on the bank of the South Fork American River. A perfect location for weddings, events, gatherings, or simply pitching a tent on soft grass near the river. We strive to provide guests with the unique experience of being immersed in the outdoors while still having some simple comforts, like a muffin and espresso in the morning. ## Overview

The Sly Guard Cabin is less remote than other cabins on the Eldorado National forest and is a great choice for families with children. Sly Guard provides the cabin in the woods experience with the convenience of modern amenities. The cabin is near Sly Park Reservoir, also called Jenkinson Lake, the tourist area of Apple Hill, a variety of wineries, a number of hiking trails, and the historic mining towns of Coloma and Placerville. The Sly Guard Cabin was constrcuted in the early 1940s by the Forest Service as living quarters for rangers "on guard" in the Sly Park area.

## Recreation

Hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking are great options while staying at the cabin. There is a horsehoe pit on the cabin grounds. Sly Park Creek has a swimming hole and Sly Park Reservoir attracts lots of boaters and anglers. Gold panning may also be done in the creek.

## Facilities

The 600 sq. ft. single story cabin has a cozy living room, kitchen, one bedroom, and one full bathroom. The cabin has sleeping accommodations for four with two single beds in the bedroom and one full size futon in the living room. The cabin grounds are surrounded by a split cedar fence and can accommodate two tents, one RV/trailer/camper, or two boats. Cars are limited to three vehicles. The cabin and grounds have a twelve person occupant limit. Sly Gurad Cabin has an electric stove/oven and refrigerator and a propane wall heater. The kitchen has a limited supply of pots, pants, dishes, utensils, and other kitchen items. It also has one flush toilet and hot and cold running water in the kitchen, bathroom, and shower/tub combination. There is a small four-person table in the kitchen and a television and DVD player in the living room. Limited cleaning supplies are provided. There is a small wood-burning stove in the living room. Firewood is not provided. The cabin grounds include a picnic table, horseshoe pit, clothesline, food preparation table, and campfire circle. Small campfires are allowed when fire restrictions are not in effect. Guests should bring their own food, toilet paper, sunscreen, matches, clothing, bedding, towels, and any other items they will need for their stay. Please bring your own trash bags and take all trash with you when you leave.

## Natural Features

At nearly 3,600 feet in elevation, Sly Guard Cabin sits among Ponderosa and Jeffrey pine near the town of Pollock Pines. The cabin is well shaded during the day, keeping it cool in the summer. A downhill dirt trail leads guests south to Sly Park Creek and the bottom of the spillway at Sly Park Reservoir. 

## Nearby Attractions

The Sly Park Environmental Education School is located across the street. Guided nature walks are conducted daily on the trail adjacent to the cabin.   
  
A resort at the entrance of Jenkinson Lake (Sly Creek Reservoir) offers a small store, restaurant and bar, pay phone, gas and fishing supplies. It is about a 2-mile drive.

The areas surrounding our 350 acre campground has dozens of trails and literally hundreds of square miles to explore by horseback! Hiking in the Sierras is a trail hikers dream come true! El Dorado National Forest has hundreds of miles of beautiful hiking trails all located nearby.

The beautiful Lake Minden RV Camping Resort is located in the grassy plains of the Sacramento Valley. Our private 41-acre lake is circled by eucalyptus trees and offers great fishing and boating adventures. The atmosphere of this RV campground in California is relaxing, the staff is friendly and helpful, and there is something for everyone. We are centrally located to several major cities and are a quick getaway as well as a convenient stop-over on the main North-South traveled highways 99 and 70. The area offers many local attractions and things to do. Cal Expo (State Fair), Arco Arena (home of the Kings basketball team) and Sleeptrain Amphitheatre are 20 minutes from the preserve. Old Sacramento is also close by Lake Minden RV Resort and offers the railroad museum and other nostalgic and historic sites as well as shopping and several eateries. Old Sacramento hosts an annual jazz festival, which is a huge event every year. The Yuba-Sutter area, located just outside the RV resort and in California's Central Valley, offers many festivals such as the Bok Kai, peach and prune festivals, and the Marysville Stampede Rodeo. In Lincoln, folks may tour the Feats of Clay pottery works or visit the Thunder Valley Casino. The city of Roseville offers Denio's Farmer's Market and Swap Meet as well as many shopping malls and restaurants. Guests of Lake Minden RV Resort come from all over the United States and Canada with some coming from Hawaii and even Europe and South Africa. The typical length of stay here is 2-3 weeks. Although we are open year round, our busiest time is April through October. If excitement and energy is what you crave, then you may want to visit our RV resort in California during this time. No matter what season you choose, the lake is brimming with stocked channel catfish and largemouth bass and fishing is a year-round pastime here. We offer a safe, secure and clean environment, 30 amp sites, and some full hook-up sites.
