Campground closed as of this review

We drove up to this campground on May 24th and it was being cleared. The sign said campground open but there were no posters or signs on the board or slips to reserve a site and it was a ghost town. Loggers who were working to clear the sites of debris on-site said that they were going to be working for another month.

2 nights next to mccloud!

Camped for 2 nights here. The campsite was great - good fire pit, seclusion, .3mi walk to the mccloud swimming hole with a rope swing, and bathrooms available.

Quiet camp

We spent one night a Cattle Camp and enjoyed the stopover. The campground was empty compared to Fowler’s just down the road. Lots of space between sites, plenty of shade, and rather level. You can access the McCloud River trail from Camp which gave us the chance to stretch our legs and wear out the dogs. A quick jaunt down the road to access the McCloud River Falls Trail which was definitely worth the early morning visit. Can’t beat $7.50 (Senior pass) for a night in a clean, quiet campground.

Awesome!

I can’t say enough good things about this campground. Fowler’s was 100% full but as of later on a Thursday in mid-May here we have an entire loop to ourselves. Rain/showers were in some forecasts so some may have cancelled trips. Sites are much larger & more spread out than Fowler’s. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was we are closer to hwy89 than Fowler’s so you do hear some traffic.

Great option when Fowler’s is full!!

was super impressed by this one. got in later than expected and fowler’s was full, cattle camp did not disappoint. short drive or medium walk to a cold shasta swimming hole, nice trails, some highway buzz but nothing too bothersome.

Nice Campground

Nice campground with a few fairly private sites. Some highway noise but not terrible. Family friendly campground for sure. Great swimming holes along the Mccloud river loop just turn left coming out of the campground and follow the paved road and signs. However swimming holes can get very crowded during holidays. Side note: beware of the chipmunks they will eat the food right off your plate if left unattended too long.

Nice clean campground for first come first serve folks

This is a nice clean quiet campground with lots of activities available nearby. I could not get a reservation at the Fowlers Campground but this one was almost empty. Only problem is the Highway is pretty close and the road noise can be a distraction.

Beautiful place, clean simple campground

clean pit toilets. camp host kept things tip top even sweeping between campers. lots of trees. about a 15 minute walk to the most beautiful swimming hole or you can drive in about two minutes. deer walking through. low yellow jackets in mid June. we usually camp nearby at Fowler’s. it was full so this was our first time at this backup camp. thought it was great. fishing was slow which isn’t the case closer to Fowler’s usually.
