$10/night.
We drove in and heard the sound of screaming rafters. The location is gorgeous right next to the water. There is a bit of higheay noise but it is mostly drowned out by the river.
Two pit toilets, the male toilet is missing the lid. There is garbage service.
Each of the sites had a fire ring and a picnic table.
The paths down to the water have some poison oak growing by them so be careful. We did not have cell service so download offline maps before you get here.
Pavement turns to dirt road to get to the sites. Each site has a fire ring and a table. The vault toilet has a trash can and was stocked with TP when we were there but we bring our own.
The trails down to the river are loose dirt and steep but we drove to the other side of the river to lounge in the sun.
Lots of skeeters! Bring your bug spray
There are 4 parking spots at this vista overlook. The views are amazing. We stayed overnight and woke up to a beautiful sunrise. It is still within the boundaries of USFS land so we dispersed camped in our van.
The parking spaces were big enough for our 20' long van. I would not recommend camping here in a tent as it was extremely windy at dusk. There are no ameneties at this site.
We drove up to this campground on May 24th and it was being cleared. The sign said campground open but there were no posters or signs on the board or slips to reserve a site and it was a ghost town. Loggers who were working to clear the sites of debris on-site said that they were going to be working for another month.
This campground had a paved road throughout and had a water spigot and vault toilets. Each site had a fire pit with a grate, a table, and a bear box. Site 9 is the camp hosts. It is a first come first serve campsite.
We stayed at site 1 and had pretty nice afternoon shade. Our drive-in lot was pretty level. The bathrooms were clean and had toilet paper. We have T-Mobile and had great reception. It got a little windy but we we slept in our van so we did not have to worry about our stuff blowing away.
The campsite itself was a short walk from a few great hike. The Muir Acsencion was the one we took.
Beautiful view of the lake, level plot, toilets, picnic table, potable water, fire ring, grill, recycling stations and large dumpsters. Dog friendly too. This campsite has everything you need to enjoy a nice evening by the lake. However, booking online or by phone is a pain in the ass. If you toussle around with the website, you'll see what I mean. We were also unable to reach anyone by phone.
They do not do walk-ins for campsites on Fridays or Saturdays. We came on a Sunday and were able to set up camp and leave our stuff to hit the grocery store in Pollock Pines. I think it was $45 for the night but very well worth camping in an established zone for the first time in a week! We drove into our site in a Ford E-350 and next to us was a converted schoolbus. Many SUVs as well. The camp host was on premises as well.
At the time of this review, the store across the check-in gate, Sly Park Resort, was closed until further notice.
Cash or check only, $35/night. On-site host sells firewood for $10/bundle. Coin operated hot showers for $0.50 to start the shower for 2 min, $0.25 to add minutes up to a 12 min max.
Each campsite had a fire ring, a picnic table, and a bearbox. There were several running water bathroom buildings around the campgrounds.
The spots near the river were filled by the time we got there but there was a small path to get down there and it was gorgeous. The forest growth was beautiful and it was nice and quiet at night. Over 100 campsites to choose from and it was nicely maintained. Would love to stay here again!
We came here on a Sunday evening with the intent of getting out of the 35 knot coastal winds and decided upon making camp at a pullout under a tree about a mile from Highway 1. However, my Prius C made it two miles in before we chose to turn around. The road is pretty well maintained if bumpy at times but we just took it slow on the way up and down.
Highly recommend downloading offline maps before you lose signal around San Simeon (south hwy 1) and carmel (north hwy 1). My boyfriend has AT&T and I had T-Mobile and neither of us had signal.
It was dispersed camping and pullouts as far as we got up the road. We set up our tent next to the mighty Prius C and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset, stars, and some beautiful morning views. It was pretty windy at night but it calmed in the morning. We did not see a single soul on our way in but come Monday morning, three cars had drove past our site (I assume they made it much farther in).
