Big Springs Campground, near Mammoth Lakes, California, is a cozy spot tucked away in the Inyo National Forest, perfect for those looking to escape into nature. With only 25 sites, it offers a more intimate camping experience, and many visitors appreciate the shade provided by the towering trees, although some sites might leave you a bit exposed to the sun.

The nearby creek is a highlight, providing a refreshing backdrop for summer days. Campers have noted that the sound of the water adds to the peaceful atmosphere, making it a great place to unwind. Facilities include vault toilets, and while there’s no drinking water or electric hookups, the natural beauty more than makes up for it. As one camper put it, “We loved the creek!”

For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, the campground is a great base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. While cell service can be spotty, it’s a perfect excuse to disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors. Just remember, it’s first come, first served, so plan accordingly. Campground with a Creek

We got to Big Springs Campground in the night on July 3rd we found site #14 available. This campground has only 25 sites some good shade, poor shade or no shade at all. Site 14 was near the restrooms (vault restrooms). Camp host available. Cell phone service poor. We liked the campground and the we loved the creek!

Nice campground

Located in a nice area with plenty of trees around the campground, but I did notice some sites don’t have trees that can be used for shade. Easy to get to. The outhouse was clean. First come first serve. I would stay here again.

Spacious.

Shade is limited but the creek running near by makes up for it during the summer.

Quiet with big trees

Decent campground. 26 sites, most are not level and most of campground is loose dirt from side by side riders. I would stay here again. Biggest downfall is the dusty dirt everywhere. Trees are big and provide shade. I cannot speak for restrooms as I was in my travel trailer. Can accommodate larger RVs if you are adventurous and skilled getting into some sites. No reservations, first come first serve.

Don't bring motorcycles.

Amazing place with a river and natural springs coming out of the ground. Fantastic and picturesque when motorcycles aren't ruining it.
