Inyo National Forest's Glass Creek campground sits along Glass Creek Road between Mammoth Lakes and the June Lake Loop, split by a small bridge into two distinct sections. Each side has a mix of shaded and open sites, with the creek-side spots offering the closest water access. Sites are large, many with fire rings, picnic tables, and bear-proof storage boxes. Vault toilets are positioned throughout both halves of the campground, and reviewers consistently note they're kept clean. The campground has no on-site water, so campers should plan to fill up at the rest area along US-395, roughly one to two miles away.
"Large sites, some near an open space that separates you from neighbors," notes Lulu, and that spacing is part of what draws repeat visitors. Sites near the creek let campers hear the water from their picnic tables, while those toward the interior of the campground tend to see more foot traffic and less wildlife activity. Bears have been reported at multiple sites, particularly at the edges of the campground, so using the bear lockers is strongly recommended. Camp hosts are generally active and responsive to bear activity. AT&T users have reported decent reception throughout.
Glass Creek runs May 15 through November 11 and accepts RVs up to 45 feet, with ample pull-through and back-in options across both sections. Campers with dogs will find the creek a natural draw, and the campground is listed as pet-friendly. For those planning a longer stay in the area, there are also pet-friendly camping areas around Inyo National Forest worth considering. Nearby, Obsidian Meadows Dispersed and Inyo National Forest Obsidian Flat Group Campground provide additional options for groups or those wanting more solitude.
Timing matters here. Crowds build on weekends and peak holidays, but arriving mid-week, especially in the week after Memorial Day or before major holiday weekends, typically means good site selection and fewer neighbors. The campground operates on a donation basis, with $10 requested. There's no trash service on-site, so campers need to pack out waste or use dumpsters in Mammoth Lakes. ATV and dirt bike traffic is common during the day, and some highway noise from US-395 carries into camp. Glass Creek is a solid match for RV travelers, families with dogs, and car campers who prioritize space and water access over full hookups.
