Inyo National Forest's Glass Creek campground sits along Glass Creek Road between Mammoth Lakes and the June Lake Loop, split by a small bridge into two distinct sections. Each side has a mix of shaded and open sites, with the creek-side spots offering the closest water access. Sites are large, many with fire rings, picnic tables, and bear-proof storage boxes. Vault toilets are positioned throughout both halves of the campground, and reviewers consistently note they're kept clean. The campground has no on-site water, so campers should plan to fill up at the rest area along US-395, roughly one to two miles away.

"Large sites, some near an open space that separates you from neighbors," notes Lulu, and that spacing is part of what draws repeat visitors. Sites near the creek let campers hear the water from their picnic tables, while those toward the interior of the campground tend to see more foot traffic and less wildlife activity. Bears have been reported at multiple sites, particularly at the edges of the campground, so using the bear lockers is strongly recommended. Camp hosts are generally active and responsive to bear activity. AT&T users have reported decent reception throughout.

Glass Creek runs May 15 through November 11 and accepts RVs up to 45 feet, with ample pull-through and back-in options across both sections. Campers with dogs will find the creek a natural draw, and the campground is listed as pet-friendly. For those planning a longer stay in the area, there are also pet-friendly camping areas around Inyo National Forest worth considering. Nearby, Obsidian Meadows Dispersed and Inyo National Forest Obsidian Flat Group Campground provide additional options for groups or those wanting more solitude.

Timing matters here. Crowds build on weekends and peak holidays, but arriving mid-week, especially in the week after Memorial Day or before major holiday weekends, typically means good site selection and fewer neighbors. The campground operates on a donation basis, with $10 requested. There's no trash service on-site, so campers need to pack out waste or use dumpsters in Mammoth Lakes. ATV and dirt bike traffic is common during the day, and some highway noise from US-395 carries into camp. Glass Creek is a solid match for RV travelers, families with dogs, and car campers who prioritize space and water access over full hookups.

Beautiful Campground in the Jefferson Pines

Private site on the edge of the campground border with a stream just below, across the stream it seems like there are maybe some rental properties but it’s still very private. The campground was not busy we stayed two nights right before Memorial Day weekend. The host was very kind and friendly we loved a donation but it was a free site with the for service I would come back here again a million times

Crabby Host

The campground itself is very nice and clean.

The host basically demanded that we pay the ten dollar donation (which we had planned to do), so it's not a free place to camp. Then he complained because we were in a double site. There wasn't any indication that it was a double site, and the campground was basically empty, so we weren't keeping anyone from the site. We gladly would have moved if someone wanted it!

Limited features

No running water or showers, also no dumpsters. Had to throw trash away at mammoth lake about 15 mins from here. Bathrooms ideally located near all campsites. If your looking for wildlife to come through camp at the edges of the campground. Center of the campground is pretty populated so you don’t have to worry about bears or anything if you keep your area clean of trash. Firewood is laying around everywhere so don’t buy any just bring an axe.

Lovely, pretty campground

Lovely campground. Nice creek sounds and beautiful large trees. Couldn't get a hold of host and sites aren't very private. Otherwise really solid choice for location, amenities (bear lockers were great) and maintenance.

Great Location Free Campground

Memorial Day Weekend 2024 Our first time camping in this free campground (donations to the campground are welcome). We stayed in a double site (for 12 people). The camp host was very welcoming. The creek and vault restrooms weren’t far from our site. We’ll definitely keep this campground in mind!

Peaceful

Clean vault bathrooms. Beautiful sound of the creek at site 6 at night for some live white noise. My dogs had so much playing in the freezing cold water and running around in the sun. Tons of shade !!

Nice big campground!

Stayed for 3 nights. We were bummed that only 1 RV was allowed per spot since there were 3 of us. Otherwise, happy with the place!

Beautiful and well maintained

I just got here and am already in love. I have a large, flat campsite with a fire pit, table, bear box and a very clean vault toilet near by. Near the northern most toilets are sites right on the stream where you can hear the water flow by from the picnic table. Large sites, some near an open space that separates you from neighbors. I was here Wed- Fri. Tip: there were very few people here the week after Memorial Day weekend.

Great Location!

Great Campground and location between Mammoth and June Lake. Once you drive in Glass Creek Rd, the campground splits in two sections. On the right you will have half the campground spots (25+), both shaded and sunny, near the creek and also out in the open. Cross a small bridge over the creek and you're in the other half of the campground on your left. Same situation, lots of campsites with plenty in sun and the outer ones with more shade. Plenty of RV spots and plenty that work for car-camping or tent camping. We have a 38' RV and there were plenty of options. No water in the campground but you can get as much as you need a mile or two down the road at the rest area along with dumpsters. For RVs: plenty of dump stations around. We used the Mammoth Community Water District dump station ($10 Donation Requested) and it worked great. Plenty of firewood to pick up around most of the sites. Had decent AT&T reception all around the campground. Had a bear visit our site a few times but we scared it away pretty easily. The camp hosts seem on top of the bear activity and are quick to respond to help scare it away. Had regular sheriff patrol the campground as well. No fees just a $10 donation requested that is optional. Lots of ATV and dirt bike activity but we weren't staying around camp during the day (hiking/climbing/swimming) so it didn't bother us. When it's quiet you'll hear traffic from 395 but we weren't bother by it much. Check out Hartley Cg just north of here if you need to get off the beaten path a bit more. Regulars say to come Monday or Tuesday if you want to have a good pick of sites around. We'll be back for sure!

Great for the price!

It's free but donations are welcome. It's more for boondocking your trailer or RV. Spots are huge. Great for motorcycle/snowmobile. I was the only person in a tent. Not great if you're looking for tent camping atmosphere. But close to Mammoth and June Lake Loop. Had a bear visitor. Better for RV camping.

Where is Glass Creek Campground located and how do I get there?

Glass Creek Campground is conveniently located between Mammoth Lakes and June Lake in the Eastern Sierra region. To reach the campground, turn onto Glass Creek Road from the main highway. Once you enter, the campground splits into two sections. The right side features approximately 25+ campsites, some shaded and others in open areas, with spots near the creek. What amenities and facilities are available at Glass Creek Campground?

Glass Creek Campground offers rustic camping with basic amenities. Each site includes a fire pit, picnic table, and bear-proof storage container. What do visitor photos and reviews reveal about Glass Creek Campground?

With its mix of sunny and shaded areas, creek access, and spacious layout, it's a peaceful setting that accommodates both tent and RV campers.

Is there a map of Glass Creek Campground showing campsites and trails?

The right section contains approximately 25+ sites, with both shaded and sunny options. Site #6 is noted for being close to the creek. The northern section has campsites positioned right along the stream. For the most current and detailed campground map showing exact campsite locations and nearby trails, check with the Inyo National Forest office or ask the on-site camp host upon arrival.
