Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Sherwood, AR

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Little Rock North KOA's pet-friendly facilities welcome campers with dogs and provide designated areas for pet exercise. Located in North Little Rock, the campground accommodates pets in tent sites, RV spaces, cabins, and glamping units. Downtown Riverside RV Park also accepts pets with concrete pads facing the Arkansas River. Both campgrounds maintain pet waste stations and require pets to be leashed when outside vehicles or RVs. Pets must be attended at all times and owners are responsible for cleanup. The Maumelle Park and Willow Beach campgrounds permit pets in tent and RV sites with similar leash requirements. Campers report these facilities are clean and well-maintained with ample space for walking dogs along designated paths.

Camp Robinson Dispersed Site offers free primitive camping where pets can accompany campers without the amenities of established sites. The trails near these campgrounds provide exercise opportunities for dogs, with the Arkansas River Trail accessible from Downtown Riverside RV Park via a pedestrian bridge. Toad Suck Park features waterfront access where dogs can cool off during summer months, though swimming areas may have separate pet restrictions. During hot Arkansas summers, early morning or evening walks are recommended to protect paw pads from hot surfaces. Concrete pads at Downtown Riverside can become especially hot during peak summer hours. Several campgrounds are located near veterinary clinics in the Little Rock metropolitan area for emergency services. The sites are typically only a few feet apart in established campgrounds, making proper pet etiquette especially important to maintain good relationships with neighboring campers.

    Little Rock North KOA

Only 1 Tent Site on the property !

It was great. I have the only tent site they offer. It’s away from the RV area. The couple that runs the KOA are super friendly. There is a pool but not open for some reason. Small dog park. Camp store. Clean. And an ice cream shop! The only drawback is it’s close to the freeway and you can hear a LOT of traffic.

    Downtown Riverside RV Park

    Unique RV Experience

At first entrance it appears as if you are entering a large parking lot. There is a large pavilion to picnic and pet area by the water. Each site requires a 50 amp but the office will offer one for purchase if you need a 50 to 30 amp connections. The center lot is for pull through sites the other site areas non-pull through by water and fence. The fence area is close to the bridge but could be limited with views since it is far away from the water and Class A frequent area.

    Two things I love:

    1. The unique downtown riverside views
    2. The ease of getting to this RV park even though it is downtown Little Rock.

    Awesome camping

We stayed in the yurts one time and it was nice but hot. Bring FANS. The yurt came with a canoe and life jackets. We loved that stay. My favorite stay is at the tent sites. We have stayed so many times. Several areas to hike with young children. Swimming pool available at a good price. The kids love the near by petting zoo. Lake available for fishing and boat rentals. Wonderful views all around one of my favorite spots.

Guide to Sherwood

Campsites near Sherwood, Arkansas offer varied camping conditions along the Arkansas River watershed. The terrain ranges from 250-400 feet in elevation with a humid subtropical climate that averages 49.2 inches of annual rainfall. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September, while winter lows rarely drop below freezing for extended periods.

What to Do

Fishing opportunities: Access the Arkansas River directly from Toad Suck Park, where camping spots provide views of passing barges. "Good fishing... nice park playground for the kids pretty quiet and well kept," notes Steve S., highlighting the river access points.

Water recreation: Visit Willow Beach for riverside activities during warmer months. One camper observed, "The water hyacinths were in full bloom while we were here and are beautiful!" The campground provides water access, though swimming areas can be limited by seasonal water levels.

Hiking trails: Explore the trail system at Pinnacle Mountain near Maumelle Park. "The Pinnacle Mountain Trail system was a shaded easy trail system that can be accessed right from this campground," shares Stevann H., making it convenient for campers seeking day hikes without driving elsewhere.

What Campers Like

Spacious campsites: Maumelle Park offers well-spaced sites under mature tree cover. "Spacious sites and beautiful area! Tried to get a water site but they were full. But after arriving we realized that there really aren't any bad sites," reports Brenda L. about the layout.

Urban accessibility: Downtown Riverside RV Park provides convenient access to Little Rock attractions via a pedestrian bridge. "This location to see downtown Little Rock is fun. We lucked into site 29 which was huge and right on the Arkansas River. There is a pedestrian bridge accessed through a security gate that crosses the river and arrives at the Clinton Library and park," explains Pam R.

Free primitive camping: For those seeking no-frills camping, the Camp Robinson Dispersed Site provides basic accommodations. "Great spot to pitch a tent by lake Conway. Isolated but not too far out," says Rylie R., pointing to its appeal for self-sufficient campers.

What You Should Know

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires planning for shade and hydration. A visitor to Willow Beach noted, "We stayed in site 103 in Area D. The site had water and 30amp service... The site was large and had trees around it offering a little bit of privacy."

Campsite reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially in prime seasons. One camper mentioned about Maumelle Park, "We got lucky with our spot, only 1 direct neighbor. Beautiful view of the Arkansas River. Busy park."

Security features: Some campgrounds implement security measures to ensure safety. At Little Rock North KOA, facilities are "Extremely nice staff. Super clean facilities," according to Michael C., while Downtown Riverside RV Park uses gated access for camper protection.

Tips for Camping with Families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. "It's a little close to the Little Rock metro area for me BUT it's very well maintained, quiet and family friendly. Lots of kids riding bikes and being outdoors," Jason W. shares about Maumelle Park.

Multi-generation activities: Consider campgrounds with diverse recreation options. One family reported, "Stayed here on our way out West. Great spot, easy access, really peaceful and nice view of the river. Dogs swam in river, kids fished and biked."

We enjoy walking and the nearby pedestrian bridge makes it handy to get over to town," explains Gary I. about the convenience.

Hookup variations: Check specific site amenities before booking. Richard S. notes about Downtown Riverside RV Park: "Lots of pull through and back in sites, some are long enough you can put two rigs in (and they're are hookups for two as well!)"
