Several cabin rental options exist near Sherwood, Arkansas, including Lake Catherine State Park and Petit Jean State Park. Lake Catherine offers rustic cabins with water views, while Petit Jean provides a variety of cabin accommodations with electric hookups and picnic areas. Most cabins include basic furnishings with beds, tables, and chairs, though amenities vary by location. Bathrooms with showers are typically available either in-cabin or at nearby facilities. "The cabins are rustic but well-appointed. All cabins have water views," noted one visitor about Lake Catherine State Park.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Little Rock North KOA offers cabin rentals with electricity and water hookups, while state parks like Lake Catherine provide more secluded options. Most cabins require reservations, especially during summer months when availability becomes limited. Pet policies vary by location—some cabins at Lake Catherine allow pets while others, like Sunset Farm Treehouses, prohibit them. A camper mentioned, "We stayed in one of the yurts. The kids enjoyed the geese right outside the door and at night, the deer came out only feet from the yurt."

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from basic to well-equipped; some cabins feature full kitchens while others provide only outdoor cooking options with fire rings and grills. The Ponds and Indian Lakes Resort offer cabins with water and electric hookups but limited cooking facilities. On-site camp stores at locations like Little Rock North KOA provide basic supplies, though selection is limited. Visitors staying at more remote cabins should purchase groceries and supplies before arrival, as the nearest stores may be 15-20 minutes away.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      Beautiful area

Our first time in Petit Jean State Park and hopefully not our last! The area is so beautiful and the park is clean. We stayed in one of the yurts. The kids enjoyed the geese right outside the door and at night, the deer came out only feet from the yurt. The yurt itself is was as expected. Only beds inside with one table, 4 chairs and a fan. It does have electricity inside but no water. Outside is a nice deck, propane stove, water faucet, fire ring, picnic table and bbq pit. It also has a canoe available for use with each yurt. The boathouse was not too far away and well maintained. There is a very nice pool on the grounds also. We really enjoyed the hiking trails.

      Lake Catherine State Park Campground

Camping on any terms tent, cabin, rv all with comforts and outdoor play

Let me just start this out by saying, selecting a spot in Arkansas you are overwhelmed with options. State parks flourish and individual campgrounds seem to be countless. When traveling to the Hot Springs area It was a toss up as to which location would bear suit my journey, not only as a campground but as a part of the adventure. I elected to try Lake Catherine State Park, located just 10 miles outside of Hot Springs.

What sold me on this site were the numerous hiking trails, but what surprised me when I arrived were the lakeside water rentals located on premise as well as the actual beach recreation area.

I arrived later in the day and quickly made my camp in the primitive tent area. These sites have no water or electric hook ups however a very nice restroom facilities within 100 yards. They also boast a playground for the kids, not the only of the site. I was greeted by other campers and the sense of community was high at this facility.

My campsite included a table and grill and was nearby a fire ring. The area was much flatter than many camp areas and made for a quick site selection. In the distance deer grazed as the sun was setting.

The next morning I ventured toward the marina and was excited to find they have numerous boats for any level of experience available. Larger units available for full or half day use and smaller units for full or half day along with by the hour.

Hiking trails were my next stop after learning of the various skill levels including ADA accessible, moderate and difficult.

In addition to primitive camping the park offers RV and non-primitive tent camping. Also available are Yurt and Cabin rentals.

Office contains limited food and beverage options as well as supplies for lake visitors and a full picnic area overlooking the beach. Bathrooms and washrooms are scattered throughout the park and are kept impeccably clean with high water pressure.

Cell signal was good even on the remote trails during my stay.

This is by far one of the nicest parks I have camped not only on this journey but on any. Staff was knowledgeable about the park and others of the state and very helpful.

      Lake Catherine State Park Campground

Small free for all tent sites

Small open Campground with no specific sites (Tent Only Area). There is a small lot nearby to park then you must walk everything in. This can be anything from right next to your car to a few hundred feet away depending on where you want to set up. Picnic tables, fire rings and campground grills located throughout but again nothing is marketed as far as site numbers. The area allows for up to six camp permits per night. Could be good for smaller groups. It’s up away from the lake unlike the rest of the campgrounds in the park. There are restrooms nearby with flushing toilets and sinks. Also a playground is located close to the campsite. Overall it was clean but felt cramped among other campers and parking away from the tent made for multiple trips back and forth.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      National Park Worthy State Park

We decided on Petit Jean State Park to be our first Arkansas camping experience and it did not disappoint! The area in and surrounding the park is absolutely stunning with amazing hiking opportunities. Waterfalls, rock outcroppings, flora and fauna… it’s all here! The site was surrounded by hardwood and pines and very private. Extremely pet friendly as well. We highly recommended staying here!

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

Beautiful Park with great hiking trails

Beautiful park with lots of space between spots and large green belt areas to enjoy. The hiking trails were fun and challenging with not many people and we hiked with our dogs. We stayed in a pull through site in Loop A, Spot 29 with full hookups. It had plenty of room for trailer and truck parking and was pretty level. There was no wifi or cell service for T-Mobile. We rode our bikes to the Visitor Center to access wifi and were able to get cell service at the Mather Lodge overlook. There is a really nice walking / bike trail from the campgrounds to the Mather Lodge. The park is well maintained with clean bathrooms and showers. Trash bins were located throughout the camping area. We will visit here again.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      Fantastic State Park

Camped here on May 1, 2025. This is one of my favorite state parks in the USA. Lots to do here. Fantastic hiking trails - rated from easy to difficult. Since I live only 45 minutes from this park, I normally come here for the day for hiking. This time, I got around to trying out the park's campground. This popular campround is divided into 4 areas - A through D. There are a total of 125 campsites, including 26 pull-through sites. Thirty-five of the sites are Class AAA sites which have 50 amp electrical, water, and sewer hookups. There are 90 Class B sites offering 30 amp electrical and water hookups. All sites are reservable. Tent and hammock camping is possible depending on the sites. I camped at site 103 in Area D. The staff at the office helped me pick this site for my campervan. The site had water and 30amp service. The restroom/shower house was clean and well maintained. The campsite itself was dated but clean. The site was large and had trees around it offering a little bit of privacy. The pull-thru drieway was close to the campground road. The site included a picnic table, tent pad, lantern pole, metal fire ring, and grill. Solar charging and Starlink connectivity may not be possible at this site; Area C has an open sky above it. There was some road noise from vehicles driving on Petit Jean Mountain Road which is behind the site. Received good AT&T 5G cell service, but little to no T-Mobile 2G service.  Areas C and D are in the woods. Most of the sites in these areas are on the small size but should easily accomodate a truck camper and smaller. Not all sites are level. Areas A and B can accomodate large rigs and towables.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

5 days up on Little John

We made it back to Petit Jean State Park for a pre-fathers day weekend. The park was opening back up slowly with COVID-19 closing many of the facilities, but it was almost back to “normal”. We stayed in B loop and grabbed an extra night in A loop on this trip.

B loop pros: -plenty of shade in hot months with the pine grove -easy access to the paved CCC trail -30/50 amp service, water, picnic table, fire ring and trash hook -clean and accommodating bath house -enough space between sites for plenty of privacy

B loop cons: -some sites are angled differently and there is no clear indication how you have to enter the loop to be able to access your site. It can create some frustration when trying to get set up -many sites are unlevel and require significant leveling chocks to get it truly level -some sites have water and the picnic table on the opposite sides of the camper. it’s purely inconvenient and I’m not sure why this is this way. pay attention when you book your site to campsite photos -NO SEWER. (EXCEPT FOR SITES 47 & 48)

A Loop pros: -it’s new, it’s laid out ideally, full hook up sites with sewer, and plenty of gravel and concrete to keep from dealing with too much dirt, mud, sand (we’ve got 2 small kids and a little dirt is great, but a lot of dirt makes for a lot of cleaning). -pull through sites and site facing the lake -much quieter and plenty of space between sites for privacy

A loop cons: -very little shade. would be rough in summer months without shade tents, awnings, etc -“Stays booked 93% of the year” -Park Office. It’s really hard to get a reservation if you don’t book at least a year out in A loop.

Petit Jean is a must for family camping. Mather Lodge has an accommodating restaurant if needed. Plenty of trails for hiking. Pool, basketball and tennis courts. Marina with boats and kayaks. It is a wonderful park and a must for all campers! Book your trip!

    Guide to Sherwood

Camping cabins near Sherwood, Arkansas offer access to several state parks within 30-60 minutes' drive. The region features rolling hills and forests with elevations ranging from 250-400 feet, creating varied terrain for hiking and exploration. Summer temperatures typically reach 90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall months provide milder conditions with temperatures between 60-80°F.

    What to do

Hiking trails with waterfalls: Lake Catherine State Park provides several hiking trails including the popular Falls Branch Trail. "We really enjoyed hiking the Falls Branch Trail with my nieces (8 and 10 years old). I would highly recommend this trail," notes a visitor at Lake Catherine State Park.

Fishing opportunities: Red River Trout Dock offers direct access to the Little Red River for trout fishing. "Good place to stay if you just need somewhere to park your camper and then spend your time on the Little Red River trout fishing. Dock on site," reports a camper from Red River Trout Dock.

Water recreation: Boat rentals and kayaking are popular at Lake Catherine. "We enjoyed the hiking trails and rented a few kayaks. It's a great lake for kayaking as the water was calm and there were only a couple of boats on the water," shares a visitor.

    What campers like

Swimming facilities: Indian Lakes Resort offers unique water recreation options. "Beautiful area with great fishing, swimming (water slides & diving boards in the middle of the lake) and fun for the whole family," explains a reviewer at Indian Lakes Resort.

Cabin privacy: Sunset Farm Treehouses provides an alternative to standard cabin accommodations with elevated treehouse structures. While a new listing with limited reviews, these treehouses at Sunset Farm Treehouses offer a unique lodging option with toilet and shower facilities but no electric hookups.

Scenic views: Petit Jean State Park offers cabins with mountain and lake views. "From the loop A, great view to the lake. A lot of hiking around," notes a visitor about the campground areas at Petit Jean State Park.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance booking, especially during peak seasons. At Petit Jean State Park, "A loop stays booked 93% of the year - Park Office. It's really hard to get a reservation if you don't book at least a year out in A loop."

Site specifications: Pay attention to specific cabin and site details when booking. "Some sites have water and the picnic table on the opposite sides of the camper. It's purely inconvenient and I'm not sure why this is this way. Pay attention when you book your site to campsite photos."

Bathroom facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between locations. "The showers are not very private other than a nasty mildewed shower curtain, but there is nowhere to dry off or dress that is private," reports a camper about certain facilities at Petit Jean.

    Tips for camping with families

Hammock options: Look for sites with appropriate tree spacing. "This Campground is quiet, secluded jewel in Clinton, Arkansas. Tall trees everywhere you look. Every campsite is shaded. Perfectly spaced trees for the hammock lovers," notes a camper at Choctaw campground.

Swimming safety: Check water conditions before planning swimming activities. Indian Lakes Resort provides designated swimming areas with unique features like water slides, but supervision is recommended for younger children.

Cabin selection for families: Consider space needs when booking. "We stayed in site #30. It had a beautiful view of the lake. It's was also a plus to have full hookups including 50 amp service and sewer. So unusual for a state park," reports a family staying at Petit Jean State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup limitations: Verify what utilities are available at your cabin or site. "They do not have 30 amp service, only 50, so bring an adapter," advises a camper at Red River Trout Dock.

Level sites: Many cabin camping areas have uneven terrain. "Many sites are unlevel and require significant leveling chocks to get it truly level," warns a reviewer about certain loops at Petit Jean State Park.

Site accessibility: Consider approach angles when booking. "Some sites are angled differently and there is no clear indication how you have to enter the loop to be able to access your site. It can create some frustration when trying to get set up," notes an RV camper at The Ponds.
