Cell service drops off as campers descend the hill toward Brady Mountain's 74 lakefront sites on Lake Ouachita. This US Army Corps of Engineers campground spreads across upper and lower loops, with the majority of sites offering first-come, first-serve availability rather than reservations.
Electric hookups are available at sites, but campers must carry water from dispersed spigots throughout the campground. The upper loop provides better views and breezes, while lower sites sit closer to the lake access. Sites 50-56 should be avoided due to proximity to the water treatment system, which produces cyclical noise that reviewers report as disruptive. A private resort shares the property, providing a restaurant, laundry facility, and camp store within walking distance.
"You have to tote your own water to and from the dispersed water spigots," notes Donna H., highlighting the campground's primary limitation. The lake features over 210 islands accessible by kayak, and campers report leaving watercraft on the beach without issues. Memorial Day visitors often find the campground nearly empty despite peak season timing.
For those seeking additional options, campsites near Royal provide alternatives, while Lake Ouachita State Park Campground offers a different experience with full hookups.
