    Roosevelt Lake - Cholla Campground

    Great canpgroup

    This was our first time camping here and we will most definitely be back. You can reserve all odd numbered campsites online. Even numbers are first come first serve. There is a boat ramp located at the front of the campground. Not ideal lake access for fishing or swimming because of steep hills down to lake. Potable water available. Dump station is currently open 24/7. Bathrooms have running water and flush toilets and also showers. Multiple playgrounds. Each spot has covered table and fire ring. Loose gravel pads. Most are fairly level. Some spots aren’t big rig accessible.

    Budget RV Park

    Now called Sundance West RV Resort

    I think if you're  looking for a place to winter, this is a good Campground.  

    Pros: Very clean, nicely landscaped for AZ, staff friendly, good grocery & dining options nearby. Lots of OTA channels, pool, corn hole, laundry, dog park, activities  etc. 

    Cons: pull through was long, but not quite level, WIFI does not reach the pull through sights in the back at all .... and they know it. Couldn't figure out how to hook to their cable. Permit to wash your rig $10 for the season.

    Guess that should have been our first clue... they have a season. Sort of winter camp for snowbirds. If that is what you are looking for, it is very nice.

    We were in the area to visit friends, dump/pump/resupply after boondocking, and do Taxes. Not having wifi was kind of a big deal for us. Being told we'd have to use the internet in the clubhouse wasn't  going to cut it. Who wants to drag all their personal financial information to a common area?

    Normally  it would not have been a big deal, we do have a Hotspot, but at $431 weekly rate, $80 nightly, in this day & age, routers for wifi to the whole park should be a given.

    Otherwise we did enjoy our stay here, and met some great people.

    La Hacienda RV Resort

    Great place to stay

    La Hacienda RV Resort is one of the nicest RV resorts that I have seen! Lot of big trees, Beautiful pool and spa, very clean air conditioned laundry and the price was very reasonable, they have a shower room for men and one for women the showers were very clean and modern. This RV resort had full hookup with Fiber Optic cable and internet. There were several craft rooms, a lapidary room, a spa, 2 Picle Ball courts, there was shuffleboard, a computer room, a sewing room, a card room..... I could go on and on about the amenities and how much I liked this RV resort, but what I liked the most was the staff!!! Joyce and Ann in the office were a true pleasure to work with! I searched East Mesa and Apache Junction for a place to park my RV for about 6 weeks(I was undergoing a surgery procedure at MD Anderson) In all my searching I found this resort and while it wasn't the cheapest, it was by far the most reasonable and it also was the best place that I could find! I forgot to mention that they are a pet friendly park if you stay on the pet approved area! I also have to add that the people who were our neighbors were super friendly and even all passed a get well soon card around and wrote kind words of hope for a speedy healing. You couldn't walk down the street without seeing a friendly face or someone who was happy to visit. I grew up in Phoenix and never considered vacationing in Phoenix for that reason....but...LA Hacienda RV Resort has me rethinking this!

    Canyon Lake Marina & Campground

    Loud but beautiful

    The campground itself was decent. Clean, basic spots with fire pit and picnic table. Fairly level, very little shade. We were in spot 135 which was a higher price because it was "waterfront" but all of the spots were pretty much waterfront so really not worth the extra money. The spots on the west end had grass and trees so they were actually nicer. If you're into kayaking or paddle boarding this is a great place to go. If you go to the east it's super quiet and calm and it goes back quite far. No boats go back there, it's peaceful and gorgeous. That was our favorite part of the trip. The drive to get there was a little scary in the RV, the turns on the 88 were very tight so you have to go super slow, but it's doable. We have a 25 ft motorhome, but there were much bigger rvs there too. At night there was a lot of noise from the road,seems like the 88 is the place to go on a motorcycle and they fly by at high speeds until about 10:30 at night. Super annoying cause it's loud but it at least didn't go too late. We also did the Dolly Steamboat dinner cruise and the food was amazing and the scenery was beautiful. No sewer hookup or dump station but you can pay $20 for a pump out. All in all a good place to stay.

    Pioneer Pass Campground

    Great place for a quiet night amongst the pines while you explore the Pinal Mountains

    The campground is nestled in a secluded canyon amongst the Ponderosa Pines and next to an intermittent mountain stream. The views on the drive up from Globe to the campground at 5,900 feet are gorgeous.

    The campground and bathrooms were clean. Some of the sites are a little close together, but others are nicely separated.

    Each site has a nice fire pit with a grill gate and a concrete picnic table.

    Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

    Campsite is at the foot of the Superstitious Mountains

    Lost Dutchman is a beautiful campsite however the sites are a little closer than what we prefer. We were in site 98 which was right in front of the Superstitious Mountains with no obstructions. The site was a pull thru but was barely long enough for our Toyota Tundra max cab and 20-foot trailer. A picnic table, fire ring and a couple of camp chairs is about all that fits at this site. If you want your trailer door to be lined up with the table, it will require you to pull the trailer through and park your tow vehicle behind it. Firewood can be purchased for$8 cash from the ranger station and ice for$6. If you want to use the well-maintained bathrooms or showers don’t stay in the 75-104 loop since the bathrooms are almost a half mile away via a trail that I would not recommend without closed toe shoes. We saw Quail and tarantulas on the trail. Although there were multiple signs to beware of rattle snakes we did not run into any. There was also a dog park near the main restrooms and showers. There is a dump station on your way out of the park that was easy to access. Goldfield Ghost Town just down the road, although a tourist trap it is a must see. There are multiple gift stores, a restaurant as well as a hamburger/ice cream stand and bakery, a train ride and Mine tours. Just a little farther down the road is the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum which is more than just a museum full of old artifacts. There is a great gift shop and 15 acres of mining artifacts, artwork and a movie site Chaple used in a 1968 western called Charro which started Elvis Presley as well as the Apacheland Movie Barn used in multiple westerns. They even have a working 1914 Stamp ore mill which was used to crush boulders that had small pieces of gold within them. When enjoyed our two-night stay at Lost Dutch and spending the day learning about the history of this little community.

    Usery Mountain Regional Park

    Close to Home and Nice

    This is a nice spot close to home and easy to get to. My site was a pull through...more a side of the road spot. No shade here at all but otherwise pretty decent. My spot had water and electric. Nice dump station on the way out too

    Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

    LOVED the Lost Dutchman

    We stayed two nights at site #4 at Lost Dutchman State Park in early May, in a campervan. The campground is very large with multiple different loops, some with large open RV sites and some more secluded, a mix of pull through and back in sites. We walked most of the campground, and if you don't need a large RV or trailer site I highly recommend the sites from 1-15, they had pretty good privacy for a desert campground. The campground loop we were in was fairly empty when we were there (mid week). The view was amazing! Site was large and level if you are tenting it, with a nice level parking pad. Bathrooms were a bit of a walk from our area, so take that into consideration. They were spotless and the showers were available at no extra cost, which was great! Site was wonderful for just lounging around and relaxing at. Potable water spout was just two sites over, a short walk. There were fire restrictions so propane stoves only, no campfires. We hiked the siphon draw trail up to the top of the flatiron, a very challenging and unique hike with a lot of rock scrambling. The trail leaves right from the campground which was perfect. The campground was very clean and quiet while we were there. I highly recommend Lost Dutchman to anyone looking for camping near Phoenix! We reserved ahead of time, campsites were $25 with the online fee.
