The road in is unpaved and moderately rough, though multiple reviewers confirm it's passable without four-wheel drive as long as speeds stay low. Some sites sit directly on the rim with open sightlines over the canyon below; others are set further inland among the trees. No fee. No trash service either.
Crowding has increased noticeably since Highway 260 was paved, and weekends can fill up fast on a first-come, first-served basis. Sites are spaced so neighbors remain visible but not immediately adjacent, which gives each camp a workable buffer. Campfires are allowed when conditions permit, and fire rings with grates are present at rim-facing spots. Daniel R. describes the area as "beautiful cool high country with many overlooks over the rim," which tracks with what most reviewers consistently note. Cell service is decent at the site. Pets and rigs up to 40 feet are both accommodated.
There are pit toilets at the area entrance near a trailhead. No water is available on-site, but a dump station roughly two miles away at the Woods Canyon Lake turnoff charges $10 to dump and $5 to fill water tanks. That same area has a small store, fishing access, and kayak rentals.
