Forest Road 689 - Dispersed Site

Forest Road 689 - Dispersed Site, near Sedona, Arizona, is a fantastic location for those looking to escape into nature without the fuss of traditional campgrounds. Just a short drive from Sedona, this area offers a peaceful retreat with stunning views and plenty of space to set up camp.

The site features fire pits for cozy evenings under the stars, and visitors have noted the well-maintained roads leading to various spots. Many campers recommend bringing your own firewood, as it’s not readily available nearby. As one camper mentioned, “Awesome sites. Good spot to crash before heading into Sedona.”

While there are no amenities like drinking water or toilets, the trade-off is the freedom to enjoy a more rustic experience. Reviewers have highlighted the privacy of the sites, with plenty of room to spread out, especially if you venture deeper into the area. One camper shared, “There are only a few campsites at this location, but if you continue on, there are lots of spots further down the road.”

For those who enjoy the outdoors, the surrounding Coconino National Forest offers beautiful skies and a chance to connect with nature. Just keep in mind that the area can attract some bugs at night, so a little bug spray might come in handy. Good spot outside of Sedona

Keep driving down the road and space will open up wider. We parked right past the little grate after you get to the more open space. Quite a few others but we weren’t looking for too much room or privacy. Got there right at sunset.

Extremely Nice stay pretty close to Sedona

So this spot was only about 25 minutes from Sedona and it was pretty great. You could hear the hum of I17 but not loud at all. Road was well maintained and the spots had fire pits. Lots of flies buzzing around but nothing biting

Great Spot

Plenty of spots the deeper you go. Only need 4 x 4 if you go off trail. Lots of biting bugs at night.

Great spot

Good spot, recommend bringing some firewood, but overall very nice. There was definitely some trash left behind so remember to pack out.

Great location and easy to find

The location was very easy to get to off of the freeway but still had pretty views. There are two spots to park at within reason. It is not meant for anything larger than a camper van though. The spot is not level though if that matters. You can be hidden from view of the road but you do hear traffic if there is anyone driving by.

Great place to stop for a few days

Dirt road to a couple campsites. There are only a few sites where the GPS takes you, but if you continue on there are lots of spots further down the road. Seems like a popular spot, but plenty of places to set up. Very quiet unless you get noisy neighbors. Oh yeah, and great views!

Easy Dispersed Camping

We arrived in the dark. It was super easy to locate, access and navigate. The forest road was also really tame, no need for 4x4. There were a few people camping in spots at the entrance. Beyond that I saw one car pulled off the side of the gravel road camping and one other in the distance when I woke up the next morning.

Tree cover for shade.

Spots here and there along the road. We picked a spot with a parking spot under a tree, a bit on a hill but the shade was worth it. Pack it in\out. Not much to do.

Perfect for overnight

Had to go a little further than the last "tent" on the app, but found a nice, quiet pullout.

So peaceful

This was such a great stop between Phoenix and Sedona! It was so peaceful at night and the stars were insane! In the morning we did a short hike down to a river bed and saw some petroglyphs. Just an amazing experience all around

night under stars with friends

Great area we camped here for a night not too far away from road or gas station, still had phone service but had great views and a nice layout for our camp. We only had two cars but can fit more. Did get chilly at night but did not see any animals.

Decent place to park

semi quiet at 430pm...a few cars have gone by..road is a wash board but not that bad. Level for the most part and not tire rutted so your not rocking back and fourth in an RV. but pull offs are small from what I've seen though I'm less then a mile down the road...I started getting that nervous feeling when the road narrows and I can't find a decent place to turn around. Nothing spectacular thus far. Views are nice.

Great views and easily accessible

Great and easy place to stay of you are headed to Sedona from the Phoenix area. It wasn't too far off course and we had the whole place to ourselves. We didn't see it hear another car the entire evening and night.
