Soda Springs Road

Red dirt and open sky characterize this dispersed camping area along Beaver Creek Canyon, where campers find multiple fire rings scattered across the rocky terrain. The road can present challenges after rain, though SUVs typically manage the access without issue. Sites sit on exposed ground with no natural shade, making early morning departures common during warmer months.

Matt G. found the area "very private" during his three-night stay, with minimal neighboring campers even on weekends. The elevated position provides views into the small canyon below, and some sites can be positioned within 40 feet of the canyon edge. Cell coverage remains spotty throughout the area.

Campers report the heat builds quickly once the sun rises, with limited relief available on the exposed sites. The proximity to Sedona makes this a practical base for day trips, with town runs taking roughly 10 minutes. Fire restrictions may apply during certain seasons, and the nearby creek runs dry during some periods of the year.

For those wanting more established amenities, FS 618 Dispersed offers additional primitive options just over half a mile north.

Visitors often highlighted the scenic desert location with canyon views and excellent privacy. The lack of amenities like water and shade requires preparation, but many mentioned the peaceful atmosphere and abundant site choices make it worthwhile for short stays.

Nice spot

You go up a dirt road for a second & then there’s a bunch of nice camp spots. Cacti all around.

Red Clay but wide open next to the canyon

Drove up here from Jerome AZ, plenty of spaces and you are next to Beaver Creek Canyon.. If you are willing you can set up about 40 feet from the edge. If it has been raining the road can be a bit of a challenge but I made it in an SUV just fine. Not many there on a Sunday evening but you can easily get a trailer in, plenty of fire rings. Spotty cell coverage. Truly roughing it car camping.

Beautiful place to camp

I felt lucky to be mostly alone, one other within sight, but no issues with atvs or bikes. Nice and peaceful. Still warm, I got burnt, of course. No fires allowed at this point. All in all, a good time to reconnect.

Spacious sites. Relatively flat.

The road is a little rocky but accessible by any vehicle. Hilly desert landscape. No shade, which is great for solar systems.

Almost like having an entire valley to yourself

It was very private.  I don't think anybody was camping anywhere near me.  On the weekend, a few kids would drive up and drink at the end of a road that wasn't too far away, but they drove by.  I stayed for 3 nights and visited Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek, Cottonwood, Montezuma Castle, Motezuma ('s?) Well.  The red dirt reminded me of the red clay in Georgia.

The sun can be brutal during the daytime, so if I stayed here again, I'd put up a good tarp for blocking it.  It was quiet at night, but not really dark enough for incredible stargazing. Likewise, one day, while hiking in Sedona, it seemed cool.  Sure enough, within 45 minutes, the sun was skin-burningly bright, and even my big hat wasn't enough to save me.

A drive into town for necessities was just a quick jaunt (10 minutes?)

If you want to get away to a site that is fairly secluded but still be near the trappings of town, go here.  Also, visit Sedona while you're here.

Good Stopover

My son and I needed a place to camp after exploring the Sedona area. We arrived late in the day and so missed the heat. Set up with a tent, cooked dinner over a campfire. The stars were awesome!

Next morning the heat came on quick. No shade, no water, etc. but we weren't here to stay. Packed and back on the road by 9am.

Probably not a great spot for multiple days, at least when the creek is dry (it was when we were there)
