Easy to find a spot

We arrived early in the afternoon. We stopped at Alamo Lake State Park to fill our water and have a shower before heading the 20 minutes or so to the dispersed camping area. The dirt road in, is in good condition. There are a lot of choices when it comes to places to camp. We first chose a spot beside the lake and then the next night headed up to a ridge spot. The sunsets are beautiful and there are burros kicking around and yelling at each other. Nice Place.

Free Camping with a View

I stayed here for a week and loved it. Gorgeous views of the lake and lots of camping spots with fire rings. The ATVs aren't ideal, but the birds and wild burros make up for it IMO. I'd definitely stay here again. Had cell reception on T mobile and Verizon.

Dusty but extremly UTV friendly

Wonderful off grid sites. There is so many places out here to camp and as far as i can tell some people are living out there. its very peaceful at night and very Dark for looking at the stars. wild life is everywhere and so many donkeys. There are still some old cowboys around on horse getting cattle. On the weekends its a SxS mall out there, i was there for 14 days and on the weekends there was about 50 to 60 SxS out and about. many many trails. very dry and clean, not a lot of trash and i did not smell or see anything.

Alamo disperse camping on BLM

Beautiful lake view and awesome sky at night! Only drawback are the UHVs flying around stirring up dust and taking away from the peace and quiet that should come with off grid camping in a federal wilderness area. Can’t fly a six inch drone because might disturb someone but you can fly around in a loud UHV! They are ruining the experience. They need a remote spot well away from camping sites and hiking areas.
