    Kountry Air RV Park

    Clean quiet campground

We have stayed here many times when were on the road heading  out for the summer.  We had full hook up, a picnic table & there is a small clean restroom near the pool if needed along with a laundry room & place to sit inside if it's hot out.  They have DVD's and some books we trade them where were there. We only stay a night & stay hooked up to the truck. The owners Gigi & her husband work hard to keep the gardens beautiful, the campground maintained & the pool is so clean & refreshing.  You can get propane here.

We've stayed 3 different time & had a nice site towards the back with a garden on the side.

It's off the beaten path a little but well worth it.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Sunset RV

    Bright light and road noise

Stopped for an overnight on our way home to Atlanta from a trip out west. Not much of a park. Most sites are long term or semi permanent. Only 6 available for regular RV. Water, 30/50 amp electric & sewer There is a small laundry room The office wasn’t open but we had reservations and had received an email about our site and directions. WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. There is a small dog walking area.

What to do

Outdoor recreation areas: Near Hoover Met Complex RV Park, campers can access multiple outdoor spaces including a playground and climbing area. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," notes one visitor.

Brewery visits: Walking distance activities provide entertainment without driving. "In addition to the Hoover Met sports complex and sports arena there is a new brewery within walking distance of the campground," according to a camper staying at Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Bowling and entertainment: Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park offers diverse entertainment options beyond gambling. "While they only have 18 sites, this is a great layover spot off of 65... Bowling, arcade, and movie theater on the grounds," mentions one reviewer about the on-site amenities.

What campers like

Private outdoor spaces: Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera provides generous site spacing. A recent camper noted, "There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites). Our site was right up against another pull through on our patio side though."

Convenient overnight stops: Sunset RV offers practical accommodations for travelers passing through. "Stayed for one night. Well maintained, level sites. Easy on and off the freeway. Very basic and clean," reports one camper about their experience.

Budget-friendly options: Several RV parks near Piper offer affordable rates with basic amenities. At Sunset RV, a camper stated, "Gravel spots with a concrete slab in front. Definitely just a no frills parking lot with full hookups. No trees, no playground, no pool, no picnic table, no fire ring. But, for 29 dollars a night for full hookups, it's ok."

What you should know

Leveling requirements: Even paved sites may require adjustment. At Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park, "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches."

Site variations: Some RV parks near Piper consist primarily of concrete pads without natural surroundings. "This is a very nice place for an overnight stay. If your looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. Clean, nice management, easy in and out," explains one visitor at Sunset RV.

First-come availability: Some locations operate without reservations. Peach Park RV Park offers "10 available (first come, first served) no reservations. We came in late & paid in the AM at Peach Park Express $35 for overnight stay."

Pool considerations: Swimming facilities operate seasonally at most locations. "The pool was open and they had a nice play area for the kids. Nothing too fancy but great for our overnight stay," according to a Birmingham South RV Park visitor.

Dog facilities: Multiple locations accommodate pets with designated areas. "Huge grassy area for the dogs. Great night, very quiet," reports a Wind Creek visitor, while another campground review mentions, "While they are paved sites, a small dog run on property is nice."

Tips from RVers

Easy access routing: Some RV parks near Piper have specific approach recommendations. At Kountry Air RV Park, "When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads."

Utility placements: Check hookup locations when positioning your rig. "The utilities are in the middle of the pad. We were able to position so we could get to both black tanks with a 10' sewer hose," explains a Kountry Air visitor.

Filter maintenance: Water quality issues may affect equipment. One Kountry Air camper recounted, "I had what I thought a very low water pressure @ my site. Don took the time to unhook my water & show me my filter had collected so much sediment from previous spot, needed to be changed ASAP."

Road noise considerations: Several RV parks near Piper sit close to highways. "It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area," reports a Sunset RV camper about environmental factors affecting sleep quality.
