      Site 204 Sep 9 to Sep 14

Site is a good size located on the shore of Lake Delano under trees. Great view. Fire ring and picnic table equipped. The temp is still hot and humid but there is a breeze which makes it bearable in the daytime, nights are cooler and comfortable. Plenty to explore with Pine Mountain Trail close by. Would stay here again. This site is water and electric only with dump station at entrance.

      Nice COE Campground

This is a typical park where not all sites are created equal. Some are paved, some are gravel. Some have 50 amp, some are 30-amp. Some are perfectly level and some have really steep grades. Some sites are pull-thru, some are back-in. Some are really long, some are much shorter. The roads in the campground are paved, free of potholes, and fairly easily navigable for big-rigs. All sites are pet-friendly and have water and electric. There are no sewer sites. Campsites 1-27 and 85-106 have 50-amp electric while the others are 30-amp. Some sites (40, 47, 50, 52, 65, 80, 84, 87, 89, 101) are “double-unit” (or buddy) sites which is reflective in the $60/night price. There are bathrooms scattered throughout the campground in each loop but there are only two shower houses in the entire campground. Sites 1-16 are perfectly level as are a few others. Reservations can be made online and the website has pictures and descriptions as well as length of site. The campground is very dark at night with the only lights being at the bathrooms. We love dark campgrounds where the moon and stars are bright. Unfortunately, numerous campers left their lights all night which we find really annoying.  Our Verizon phone was very spotty and not reliable.  We were able to use our portable Dish satellite to get television.  There is a dump station located conveniently on your way out which is quite busy on Sundays at check out.

      Small but nice

Site 22 full hookup. Small campground with nothing around in terms of town or business. Bathhouses were very well kept. Laundry was $1! Went to Providence Canyon SP. Very interesting hikes and sites. Watch those log trucks they move!

      Great Getaway

I have been to FDR 3 times in the last 3 years and I hope to come more frequently. I came here multiple times over 50 years ago and I find it as enjoyable now as I did then. The check in is always easy. It is quiet there and there is so much to do. The trails are great for hiking. The facilities are always clean.
Georgia state parks are always nice but this is my favorite.

      What a Gem

Nice updated CCC corp campground. Large sites, level full hookup. Most if not all have a view of the lake. We are here on a Monday but very quiet .We are in an Airstream 28 foot but several large rigs , class A and 5th wheels Not close to full but I expect very busy in the summer and weekends. I would definitely make a reservation just 90 miles from Atlanta

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

      4.7 stars

This review is for an early winter stay. The 500 loop was beautiful, with tall pines dominating the flora and creating a serene setting. The sites on the outside of the loop are wonderful- large, private and forested; whereas the inner sites were facing the road in many cases. We had 505 and my parents had 515, and both were really good. We played in the forest a lot with the kids, building a shelter and climbing trees. There is a small playground in the 500 loop. The other camping loops didn't look quite as private. The park is super close to Callaway Gardens, so we were able to check in and get setup on Friday late afternoon and still get to see the Holiday Light show at Callaway, which is pricey but very cool and worth a one time experience. The state park itself is huge, spanning at least 15 miles with trails throughout. There is one trail that is over 20 miles. The lookout where FDR spent time and had a picnic spot was stunning. We also really enjoyed the Cascade Falls trail, which had several small waterfalls along the way. This park leaves little to be desired for a weekend camping getaway.

      Blanton Creek Park Georgia Power

      F. D. Roosevelt camping.

Our stay at F.D. Roosevelt Campground was a mix of beautiful nature and frustrating logistics.

📅 Reservation Issues One of the biggest challenges we experienced was trying to secure a campsite on short notice. The reservation system felt rigid — same-day bookings weren’t available online, which made planning last-minute trips difficult and stressful. The online reads like same day walk ups are non existent.

🚿 Cleanliness of Facilities The bathrooms and showers generally stayed clean and maintained.

💰 Pricing for Tent Camping For tent camping, the nightly rate felt on the high side compared to what you’d expect — particularly if you’re just pitching a basic tent without hookups or extra amenities. We paid $43 per night here for a simple tent stay. It felt a bit steep for what you get unless you’re taking full advantage of the trails, lakes, or historical sites.

🌲 Overall Vibe While the setting is beautiful and there’s plenty to do around the park — from hiking trails to nearby historic spots — the combination of reservation headaches and cost for basic camping made our experience a bit of a mixed bag.

      Quiet yet close sites

Stayed here for 3 days to go visit Providence canyon which was a 15-minute drive down the road. Sites were close together, no playground in the campsite. Staff was amazing and helpful.

    Guide to Auburn

Chewacla State Park offers diverse camping options near Auburn, Alabama, with elevations ranging from 600-700 feet above sea level across its 696 acres. The park sits at the edge of the southern Appalachian highlands, creating a unique transition zone between mountain and coastal plain ecosystems. Winter temperatures typically range from 30-60°F, while summer months can reach 90-100°F with high humidity.

    What to do

Fishing and boating: At Wind Creek State Park Campground, Lake Martin provides excellent opportunities for anglers. "We were the only trailer in loop D. It was quiet and very enjoyable! Being right on the lake and having the ducks swim up really thrilled our dogs," notes one winter visitor.

Mountain biking: The extensive trail system at Chewacla features routes for all skill levels. "It's in a nice park with water features, they have a swimming area, small creek, and falls. Many areas have killer mtb trails to ride, worth a sniff," explains one visitor about the dedicated biking terrain.

Hiking to waterfalls: Florence Marina State Park Campground offers scenic trails. "This is a super campground with friendly hosts and fellow campers. Although I do not recommend going in July. It was HOT!" advises one hiker who used the park as a base camp for exploring nearby Providence Canyon.

    What campers like

Peaceful waterfront sites: Amity Campground provides spacious lakeside camping. "Great sites a respectable distance apart. Nearly all on the lake. Not many amenities and closed in the fall/winter," mentions one camper who appreciated the site layout and natural setting.

Wildlife viewing: Tent campers often spot local fauna around dawn and dusk. "Wildlife is busy here—armadillos, raccoons, and rabbits all feel quite at home on your tent pad. It's charming, if you're into that kind of thing," notes one visitor at R. Shaefer Heard Campground.

Secluded yurt camping: Hideaway Cove offers a unique yurt camping experience near Auburn. "I was blown away by every aspect of this beautiful place. It was impeccable, secluded but still accessible by my 2WD car, plus a walk down a hill to the site," shares an enthusiastic reviewer about their glamping experience.

    What you should know

Gate closure times: Some parks enforce strict entry/exit policies. "Beware: the gate is locked shut from 10 PM to 8 AM, no exceptions unless the elderly host personally deems your emergency worthy," warns a camper at R. Shaefer Heard Campground.

Seasonal closures: Certain facilities operate on limited schedules. "We love camping at Amity. It is currently only open from April to Labor Day. We would love it even more if the Corps of Engineers would keep it open all year long," mentions a regular visitor.

Bathroom conditions vary: Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground maintains clean facilities. "Clean bathrooms, lots of shade, fresh water pump and electric at our site," notes one camper, contrasting with reports of older facilities at some other area campgrounds.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Select sites with easy access to play areas. "Loop is nicely designed, full hookups, passing your target on the left (better visibility). There are glamping tents for rent. Several hiking trails, including a waterfall trail are inside the gate checkpoint," explains a Chewacla visitor.

Swimming options: Look for designated swim areas when booking during warm months. "Tennis courts and a basket ball court if one desires. The park is right on the Alabama/Georgia line, in Alabama but on Eastern time, a little weird," notes a visitor at Amity describing the recreational amenities.

Kid-friendly activities: Blanton Creek Campground offers enjoyable family experiences. "The camp site is beautiful! It's a fairly small camp site compared to others. It is very well kept up and clean. Would definitely go back 10/10," shares a family who visited with children.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection for big rigs: Choose loops with adequate turning radius. "We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like," advises an RVer at Franklin D Roosevelt State Park.

Leveling challenges: Be prepared for uneven terrain at some parks. "Campground is fairly large with lots of sites for RVs, a few Cabins, yurts, and even tent sites. The RV sites near the pool are concrete pads and well spaced out. The sites below the pool area are a little tighter and un-level," cautions a visitor at Pine Mountain RV Resort about selecting the right spot for your rig.

Hookup reliability: Check amperage requirements before booking. "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances," warns an RVer about electrical limitations at certain sites in the Auburn area, highlighting the importance of matching your RV needs to available power.
