Boaters and anglers find Florence Marina State Park Campground well-positioned on Walter F. George Reservoir, where Georgia meets Alabama waters. The 44-site campground sits within a pine forest draped with Spanish moss, offering full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet alongside the lake's edge.
Sites cluster closely together with roughly 15 feet between neighboring rigs, creating a social atmosphere that some campers appreciate while others find less private than expected. Fran H. notes the campground works well "if you have a boat; great" with "Spanish moss hanging from trees." Several sites experience flooding during heavy rains, particularly in low-lying areas, so campers should check conditions before arrival.
The full-service marina anchors recreational activities here, with boat rentals, fish cleaning stations, and a launch ramp providing lake access. Anglers can fish with either Georgia or Alabama licenses since the reservoir spans both states. B. M. enjoyed renting a boat to explore waters featuring "lots of blooming Lilly's, big oaks with moss, shorebirds and gators." Swimming isn't permitted due to alligator presence, but kayakers can paddle across to Alabama waters. A small fishing dock serves campers, while hiking trails wind through the property, though some paths show Halloween decorations year-round from seasonal events.
The campground operates year-round with clean bathhouses featuring heated facilities, laundry rooms, and hot showers with good pressure. A small camp store stocks fishing supplies and basics, though major shopping requires trips to Eufaula, Alabama (20 miles) or Lumpkin, Georgia (16 miles). Cell service proves spotty, particularly for Verizon users. Cable TV connections are available at sites, and a miniature golf course provides family entertainment. For those exploring places to camp around Omaha, this marina-focused park serves as a launching point for Providence Canyon State Park, located just nine miles away.
