Campers arrive at Lake Lowndes State Park Campground via paved roads that lead to spacious, level sites designed for RVs up to 45 feet. The campground sits along the shoreline of a small lake, with many sites offering direct water views. Sites 31, 41, and 43 receive particular praise from returning visitors, while waterfront spots like site 10 provide tent campers with lake access right from their campsite.
The campground accommodates both RV and tent camping with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections. Each site comes equipped with picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. Recent updates include new picnic tables, though the shower facilities show their age and could use renovation. Park staff actively address maintenance issues, including ant problems that occasionally affect some sites during warmer months.
Recreation centers around the lake, where campers fish, kayak, and boat. A disc golf course draws enthusiasts, while hiking trails loop around the water. The park also features tennis courts, softball fields, and a playground. An administration building houses indoor games like pool and ping pong. Wildlife including ducks, geese, and deer frequent the area, particularly in the evenings.
"Lake Lowndes is simply a place that every camper (primitive or RV) has to visit," notes Richard W.. Reservations fill quickly on weekends. For additional camping options in the region, consider Hidden Cove Campground RV Park.
